Who do you run with?

I have been running with music a lot lately because I’ve been by myself.  I do have some buddies I run with, but sometimes life gets in the way and they can’t run on a day that doesn’t work for them.  Nothing can replace a run with a buddy….someone to keep up with (and keep you moving!!), someone to talk with, and someone to take your mind off that you feel like you want to DIE!!๐Ÿ˜‚ 

I try to keep a good mix of music on my iPod, so I keep going.  I get songs from the radio (mostly SirusXM), commercials (sad and kinda embarrassing), and lately…Sean Hayes (of “Will and Grace” โค๏ธโค๏ธ) official Facebook page.  SN: check it out because his lip syncing videos are HILARIOUS! I literally want to start my day with him!! #hesmyBFF #justdoesntKNOWit. He has some GREAT songs he’s lip synced to and I IMMEDIATLEY download them from iTunes!!

Damn…it’s GOOD to be back!

…or I’m officially CRAZY for going back! Yes, folks, after an almost 4 month (self imposed, BUSY MOM) hiatus from CrossFit, I managed to drag my sorry behind right back there!  Damn…did I miss the place! This has been the LONGEST break I have ever taken from CF, so understandingly, I was NERVOUS.  Not nervous that I couldn’t do the skills/movements. Nah….I was worried I was going to DIE by WOD! (Coin that phase, Angie!!!).

 If you don’t remember (or maybe you are new) I like to name a WOD that isn’t given one by the CF Gods. (You know…THE GIRLS…Angie, Annie, Cindy, Helen,etc.  #thoseB****ES). I name them for how I feel after experiencing the WOD.  Today…was….DAMN!!!  As in DAMN, that was hard! Or DAMN, that sucked! Or DAMN, what time again tomorrow??? ๐Ÿ˜‰

It felt great getting back to what I love! I’ve missed it over these past months and I’ve realized how STRONG I feel before, during, and after a WOD. (Ok…maybe not COMPELETLY strong after the WOD!). AND….I got my girl, Leslie, to come back with me!!  She hasn’t been there in almost a year. She’s gonna LOVE me tomorrow, I tell ya!

Dinner was a quick trip to Subway for me and the boys.  They had Spicy Italian sandwich and I had a double chicken (Sweet Onion Teriyaki) chopped salad… 

with banana peppers, black olives, and pickles. Sounds odd but tastes GOOD! I just missed my fried onions! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I wait for the BOOM (or DOMS as the pros call it….Delayed Onset of Muscle Soreness) of soreness over the next few days.  My quads are going to be in FI-YAH from all those squats. My shoulders are going be sore because of the push ups. My hands hurt (and going to hurt MORE) because of the knees to elbows (K2E).  My CORE, which sucks more than my legs, will PAY because of the sit ups and K2E.  If you see on my blog Facebook page, my cover photo PERFECTLY describes my love-hate relationship with CrossFit…

Back on it…

Back from MY laziness of Spring Break! I was afraid I was going to forget everything….how to get to work, how to get the kids to school….EVERYTHING!  I haven’t taken this much time off (6 working days) in a LONG time!! It was nice, but I think I’ll be paying for it while exercising! ๐Ÿ˜

I was able to run yesterday but it was short lived…. 

 ….because Mother Nature had other plans! As you see, 1.25 mi was all that was allotted because if the rain. #boo. I constantly have to remind myself that SOMETHING is better than NOTHING. But……it still ain’t great! 

I need to get off my A** and do a few things:

  • Take my bike to the repair shop. I need a new tire and I’m FINALLY interested in investing in some aero bars! (like THIS is going to make me a better cyclist…..hell to the NAH!!!) 
  • Need to get in a pool!! This basketball has SERIOUSLY put a crimp in my training. I think the race I want to do is in like 6 weeks! ๐Ÿ˜ 
  • How ’bout in need to REGISTER for the race!! I mean, seriously Angie, get off your a**!!! (Refer to the previous bullet point, Angie)

I feel better now…..

What I’m Digging Now….

It’s ๐ŸŸ-day!! Get it….FRY-day???? Cheesy??? YES…but you KNOW you wanted to laugh.  I’m on my way home after a wonderful week at my sister’s house in Haymarket, VA. The kiddos had Spring Break and we drove up for the week.  I’ll fill you in on my visit, later, but for now….

1. Stitch Fix – Have you heard about this? For a $20 fee, a stylist (per your profile likings) picks out clothes and/or accessories for you.  5 pieces in total, ranging in price, that you can keep or send back.  You can choose all 5 or not. You can choose 1 or 3 or nothing at all.  The $20 fee goes towards the purchase if you buy all 5 items PLUS an additional 25% discount on top of that!!! You can sign up to get a monthly “fix” or an occasional one.  I have it quarterly as a little treat to myself!! Some photos of my last fix (PLEASE forgive me!!!)

2. Cheez-It GROOVES – these are DANGEROUS! I am a sucker for chips (or anything of the like๐Ÿ˜‰).  But outside of the handful of tortilla chips that I had from Chipotle (that I STOLE from one of my kids!!), chips and their cousins haven’t really touched these lips since January! I found a great substitute for those that are like me and want that “chip crunch”.  


 I don’t have them very often but when I don’t…I eat the CRAP out of them!!! #sorryNOTsorry

3. RunDMT- a fellow mom, runner, blogger and close to home! You know I’m a sucker for finding ladies like me! And I LOVE the name of her blog…a play on RunDMC!!!  She is an inspiration to follow from her marathons to “simple” mommy-hood!  Please check her out!  She also helps manage a group of bloggers to connect, socialize and get our stories out in the Blogosphere!! If you live in the Tampa Bay Area, please link up! You WON’T be sorry you did!  I just did and you won’t believe the overwhelming support and guidance I’ve received already!!!

4.  Wild Red – another blog I LOVE!  I am a Florida girl (or at least since the age of 8…..and I’m almost 43!!!!๐Ÿ˜‰) and she finds all of these amazing places right here, practically in my backyard, to go and see here!!! It can be VERY easy to fall into the rut of theme parks while you are a FL resident.  And sometimes…you just want something else. And if you do, Wild Red is that lady that will help you find it! Even if you aren’t a FL resident but plan to visit, check her out!!

5. Balance Bars– my second “not so nutritious” snack.  I like bars as my “in between” meal snacks or my “before I run” snack.

 There are some other flavors but THIS IS MY FAVORITE!!  I think they are 88 cents at Wally World and I usually stock up on Mondays before work.  ๐Ÿ˜‰

Lazy Day

Wednesday started out with some GREATS intentions of another run. But….Mother Nature had some different plans! RAIN! #bummer.  I opted to skip the run because who really likes to run in the pouring rain?   If I had been running initially and THEN it started…well that’s one thing. But to intentionally go out in the weather….NAH! ๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿ‘Ž

We (Julian, Aidan,and I) did get to have lunch with my nephew/their cousin, Ray. 

Silly boys…..

 It was nice to be able to do that and have the kids share lunch together.  

Since it was a rainy,lazy day…why not wear rainy lazy day clothes??  

Don’t mind the chunky vacation backside….๐Ÿ˜

Yep, I got it in….FINALLY! I’ve been at my sister’s since last Friday.  I didn’t want to run Saturday after being in a car for 16 hours! Sunday….we went to Baltimore to overnight and take the kids to the National Aquarium (post coming soon on that trip). Tuesday it was then.

Towards the end…almost there!

   It still amazing how vacation can throw off your ENTIRE system…your routine, your body, everything! I’ve been ok with my eating but I feel it ALL over me! But I’m having a GREAT TIME with my family here in Haymarket. I will try to repeat the same tomorrow!!!

…which really means it tastes like A**! This is what my sister, Mo, said!!! So, the back story- yesterday, my sister and I were in Target buying last minute Easter baskets items. (Ok, really…just STARTING my Easter shopping๐Ÿ˜‰). As a general rule, I make it a habit to stop at Starbucks when there. The new smoothies have arrived and ready for us to try! Why not??

I enjoyed it and would have another. It would be a treat once in a while because it’s about $6 for one….๐Ÿ˜

We are here in Haymarket, VA were my sister and her family live for Spring   Break. We love being able to spend time with our family, even if it’s pretty loud….I have 2 kids and Mo has 4 kids. What do they call that??? Joyful NOISE???  Ummmm….OK!?!?!๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

What I’m Digging Now…

I used to post about “What I Love Tuesdays” (WILT).  I haven’t posted about that in a while, so I thought I’d bring it back….with a new name…..What I’m Digging Now (WIDN).  This will be my Blog (or Website) Edition – 

I’ve read many blogs over the years and doing so inspired me to do the same.  The blogs I have read (and continue to read) inspire me…to be a better me.  Whether it is through fitness, parenting, health, fashion..whatever…I get something from them all!  I thought I’d share some of the blogs/websites that I like.

 Asshole Parents (sorry for the language if you are sensitive to it๐Ÿ˜).    

I literally DIED when I saw this!! I stumbled across this on my IG.  Anything that deals with people that are just like me…I’m all in!!! You know those moments when your child is crying/pouring/being a brat for reasons that seem INCOMPREHENSIBLE to you as an adult?? Then you are an #assholeparent. If you have a sense of humor like mine (basically of a 13 year old BOY) and you are a parent, you will more than likely enjoy the website and the IG feed!! Check them out.

This is for all us petite ladies living in a non petite world. Have trouble finding some clothes, do you? Cupcakes & Miles

I am particularly partial to blogs that are local! I live in the Tampa (FL) area and by chance, so does she!!! I’m sure we have passed each other a GAZILLION times and haven’t even known.  Her blog is great…from what she eats, to what she doing (soon training for a marathon, right??), and her home and work life.   Hopefully, we will meet in a race…or in Target! ๐Ÿ˜‰

When you follow websites and blogs, you really feel like you are getting to know that person.  I find comfort in reading their stories amd can’t wait to see what the next post is (….but not like stalker-ish waiting…..๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‚).  And although you may NEVER meet in the real world, you always know in the BLOGiverse, you have a person/people that understand EXACTLY what you are going through. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

It’s the LITTLE things…..

It is true…it’s Spring Break! It doesn’t mean what it used to mean as kid…or NO SCHOOL!  What does it mean to me as an adult and a parent?? I get to sleep IN!!  I get one more GLORIOUS hour of slumber!  #itstheSMALLthings. The one extra hour means…

  • NO rushing to get ready (partly my fault because I watch whatever “show du jour” I picked on Netflix while getting ready๐Ÿ˜‰).
  • NO arguing for little man (Aidan) to get up and shower.
  • NO brotherly arguing about what to what to watch while eating breakfast.
  • A peaceful ride to work with no school drop off.
  • Listening to what I want on the radio/iPod. 

Nothing beats a slower morning pace. I honestly didn’t remember that the boys were on break until my alarm went off as usual at 4 am.  It hit me like a bullet….and I reset the alarm and went right back to sleep! #sweet

Then, I felt bad because I could have better utilized that time to get up and go for a run, but it’s TOO dark! Not that I think I’m a hot commodity or something but I don’t want to be in any harm’s way, you know??

I left my house, basking in my total selfishness. And what better way to complete the circle of selfishness than a stop at Starbucks!!!  I always stop to get my coffee when I don’t have to take the kids to school, so today would be no different. Again…the little things! 

I hadn’t had breakfast at home, (completely out of Almond milk!  Julian apparently likes it, too!) therefore I opted to have something from the menu.  

Uhhh, yes! I’ll have some!!!

Herty Blueberry Whole Grain Oatmeal is what’s for breakfast. It comes with fresh blueberries and agave syrup. Oatmeal nutrition facts (Straight from Starbucks’ website):

  • 220 calories
  • 2.5g fat
  • 5g protein
  • 43g carbs – 13g sugar; 5g fiber


  • 20 calories
  • 0g fat
  • 0g protein 
  • 5g carbs – 1g fiber

Agave syrup : I couldn’t find on their site but I imagine it can’t be much considering it is a small packet. 

I’d say that’s not bad…. It filled me up and it was a GREAT way to start my morning.  On with the work day……

A Different Way….

I decided on a different route today for my afternoon run.  I have to switch it up because mentally I can remember when or where I felt “tired”.  Not really tired physically….but where I guess mentally I’m done!  There is a trail that I have been wanting to get back to.  I’ve run it once before, December to be exact , on my first 10k.  The trail has a bridge over a fairly busy street…..

Up and over…..that bridge was MINE!! It was hilly and it was hot…but I did it! I also did it with my running buddy,who was able to squeeze it in today.  I should really say that WE conquered that bridge together!  

 I had to foam roll today because I increased the distance today. I usually get 2.25 miles in, however today I was able to get 3 miles in.  ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰ #YES. My inner shin felt a little sore, but no where near like it was in the past! I’m always very careful because I’m NOT taking 8 weeks off again…..ever!
