The First Day…

My summer as I know it is officially OVER! How do I know that??  Because my kiddos started back to school today!! Super excited and craving the normal routine again! NOT super excited to argue, fuss and fight about missing to write HW in the agendas, forgetting books/notebooks, crumpled papers in the backpacks, FOOD in the backpacks…I could go ON  forever! Ugh…..

This is Julian’s LAST first of school at St. Joseph Catholic School. He’s going into 8th grade, that means ….GASP…high school in T-minus one school year!

He’s finally smiling because he got his braces off last week! Flash that 5k smile, love!! (No…not the run 5k but as is 5k like 5 GRAND!!!).
Aidan is going into the 3rd grade at SJCS.  And in true fashion, he starts  the school year in HIS way….

All I can people is PRAY for his teachers!!πŸ˜‚
  They had a GREAT day!
I was able to squeeze a little run in before picking them up and hearing all about their day! It was a very HOT Florida day…my breathing was off and so it was a challenge to get this little run done.

SN: the school is celebrating its 60th Anniversary.  I was representing and sporting the colors!  I truly hope I didn’t embarrass them….because I was SLOW! πŸ˜‰

All in all…it was an EXCELLENT  first day!

Have your kiddos started back to school?

How was their first day?

And your ANSWER is….

Thanks to Cupcakes and Miles for the tag on this “getting to know you” survey! So….heeeeeeeere we go!

1. Would you rather run along the beach path or a moutain trail?  Always and FOREVER…the beach!  I wish I could live (or rather AFFORD to live) by the beach.

It’s calming to hear the water while you are running! #bringIT

2. If you could choose the flavor of Gatorade at your next race aid stations, what would it be?  LEMON LIME!!

It’s the ONLY flavor I like…the ONLY flavor I drink…the ONLY flavor I would serve to others! πŸ˜‰.

3. If you were given $100 gift card to a running store, what would you purchase with it?  Hands down…Under Armour Play Up shorts! Like…in EVERY possible color!!

 Me…in the shorts….😝

…..and the Model in the shorts! Whatever…they are com-FY!!! I want ALL the colors!!

4. Do you prefer to following a training plan or wake up and then decide how far or fast you want to run?   In the perfect world, I would PREFER to follow a plan! (If you know any good ones…PLEASE let me know!!!) However…life (as I know it now) is preferring the “willy nilly” approach! Menaing…Sunday, I determine WHEN I run and HOW FAR I will run based on what the kiddos have planned!  Double meaning…whatever I can get in!! πŸ˜‰

5. Would you rather start your run worth the uphill and end on the downhill or start your run with the downhill and end on the uphill?  Oh God!!! Start with the uphill, PUH-LEEZE!

6. When you can’t run, what type of cross training do you choose to do?  CrossFit or swimming .

7. What’s your preference—> out and back, point to point, or loop runs?  I always remember WHEN and WHERE (mentally) I became tired, so I prefer to mix it up!  I don’t have a preference…..

8. If you had to recommend ANY running related item to a new runner, it would be……?  SHOES!!! I don’t care what top you have, what awesome running shorts you have…what GPS watch you own….you can’t have a good run without the most important piece of equipment…shoes!  Everyone eventuall finds the brand they like…I’m a Brooks girl! And I LOVE my Adrenaline 14s….

I’ve tried other brands, but Brooks are the one for me!

9. Do you see any wild animals while out on your runs?  I’ve seen alligators in the lakes, and swans (are they really WILD??)

10. Ever gotten lost while on a run?  NOPE!! And I don’t want to, either!

11. If you could have one meal waiting and ready for you each time you got home from a run for the next 30 days….what would it be?  DORITOS! No….I kid!  I’d probably like a COLD piece of fruit like an apple (Honey Crisp, Jazz, Braeburn) or a peach (GEORGIA, that is….!)

12. Capris or shorts?  What do you run in most?  Because I live in Florida, shorts.  I should’ve, however, be running in capris! #legsNOTcute

13.  At what mile (or how many minites) into your windows your body start to feel like it’s warming up and ready to go?  Mile 2 is my jam!  It feels like I have found my groove and I can take on any race!

14. What do you do with your keys when you run?  Good ol’ fashion safety pin to the inside of my shorts!πŸ˜‰

15. If you had to relive any race that you’ve done in the past, which one?  It would be my first 10k in Decenber 2014, the Jungle Bell run.  That’s the first (and only) time that I felt like a runner !   I felt strong!

16. What type of run is your least favorite?  Without at doubt…anything with HILLS!!

17. When you go for a run, do you leave from your front door or drive somewhere to start?  I guess technically since I run after work (60 miles from home), I DRIVE somewhere (Winter Haven,FL) to start!

18. When running in the daylight are sunglasses a must or an annoyance?  They are a pain!! I choose a baseball cap, ALWAYS because I live in Florida!

19. When you get tired, what keeps you from quitting?  My POWER song on my iPod! Which ones, you ask? “You Can Do It” by Ice Cube

I know..that sneer will make you MOVE!

….or “Inside the Fire” by Disturbed

 I know…even SCARRIER!!

There you have it!  Let me here from you…

Finally!!!

For the past 10 days (-ish), we have had some HELL-A rain days here in the Sunshine State! I mean FLOODING with Noah and his Ark kind of rain!  Tuesday…we finally saw the sun again! It’s been nice to get back and feel normal again!!

Normalcy meant getting back to running outside in the DEATH HEAT!   I was able to swim on Wednesday:

  • 200m warm up
  • 100m breast stroke
  • 100m freestyle kick
  • 8-25m sprints at :60 (should have done :45)
  • 100m butterfly kick
  • 100m freestyle

I was all to happy to finally get a swim in since my cancelled triathlon.  (I’m still kinda mad…but such as life!).  Since I’m eyeballing a race in September…I have to stay focused.

Today, my buddy Leslie and I were able to get a run in.  And man…was that a HOT MESS!! I was so angry with myself because I had to take some walk breaks (4 to be EXACT!!!) because of the heat.  Today, I felt like I couldn’t breathe!! I was fine for the first 1 mile and quarter, but man that heat smacked me dead in my face!!!  So…a little break here…a little break there…still pissed me off at the end!  Summer is always the time my running suffers, so I know that this is normal for me, but it still sucks!  I feel weak and out of shape, but I remain positive because I am a) doing more than anyone sitting still and b) I’m still under construction.

I used this picture to say: STOP sabotaging yourself with negative thoughts!

-AND-

You are under construction (still), so be PATIENT with yourself!

 How was your day??

Oh….I forgot….best news EVER! My FAVORITE running store is opening a location close to me!  Fitniche is coming to the Brandon/ Valrico area (for those in the Tampa Bay Area).  I ONLY buy my  running shoes (and gear) from them because they are :

  • Always knowledgeable
  • Prices are GREAT
  • Selection is even BETTER
  • Every person…literally EVERY PERSON, is beyond courteous! No matter if you are a seasoned runner, a recreational runner/ athlete (me), or a newbie- everyone is treated the same!!
  • They have great run gatherings that get everyone together to run…all typesof people!

I am still partial to their Lakeland (FL- Polk County) location because I spend A LOT of time in Polk County and plan on a move there in about a year.  But I’m excited for the possibility of joining in on some group runs here at home in the mean time! πŸ˜‰.

If you live in the area, look out for their opening some time in September! In know I will be there!!!

Oh…and this is HILARIOUS:

 #byeFELICIA #idroppedtheMIKE

Yep…SURE did!! (again)

Well….I’ve done it again! I’ve found a new snack and I’m writing ANOTHER post on FOOD!! I was in Wally World (Walmart, to you not in the knowπŸ˜‰) this morning, as I am every Monday. I lunch prep in a very odd way…get my stuff
there on Monday and I go. No neat containers, no measuring…just bags from Wally World in the fridge at work! #sorryNOTsorryAny who…I am carusing the produce isle and low and behold something sticks out and literally wants to jump in my cart…

Introducing….Rockit!

These apples are grown in New Zealand and now are available here in the US. They come in this cute plastic container with 5 apples, perfect for “on the go” people (like myself)! They remind me of a miniature Jazz apples or Honeycrisps, so they are sweet, crisp and CRUNCHY!!!  As a matter of fact, they ARE probably one of hose apples, but I couldn’t resist the cuteness!! According to the packaging, it’s “your DAILY fruit blast!”

 Ain’t she CUTE????

I am a SUCKAH for new things, cute packaging…all of it! I’m the Marketing Department’s BFF! So…honestly HOW could I and WHY would I pass up the opportunity to try these???πŸ˜‰

Do your self a favor and go get some to try!!

#ROCKit

Here’s your Monday Funny:

 It IS, isn’t it??

It was SO good…

…that I felt I needed to write a post a post about it!  Hubs made dinner the other night (as ALWAYS because I’m domestically challenged!!). The dinner was excellent, as usual. But  he made a different salad because he knows I’m encorporating more veggies in my daily routine.  I recently started eating tomatoes (I know…I’m an idiot!) and I can’t get enough of them on salads! (Baby steps elsewhere on food, btw. Baby steps….πŸ˜‰).  This salad was perfect for me…

It may not look like much, but I’m in LOVE with his “creation”. #iDO

It beyond simple, even I couldn’t screw it up!

  • Diced cucumber
  • Diced tomato
  • Balsamic vinaigrette
  • Gorgonzola cheese (just a pinch)
  • Fried onions (my salad staple!)

He was going to use avocado but the one we had wasn’t so good. But can you image how good that addition would have been!

I ate some for lunch today and added the “Cowboys Caviar” from Costco…

 Man….was THAT good too!!!

It was so simple, but I enjoyed it so much, that I wanted to share with you guys!

Happy Sunday!
