When you are READY to bring your A game…

…but you show up to the gym with NO SHOES or SOCKS!!

…and those SOCKS, though!!

That my fellow bloggers/readers is what you call an “EPIC FAIL“!! Now, I’ve been known to forget socks; that’s common. But shoes??? Never! Who forgets shoes?? It was more like I was bringing my “C” game!

Today has been my third week back to CrossFit.  I miss my old box, but all of my old friends all go the box I’m currently at now.  I’m happy to be back! I’m not as strong as I used to be but that’s why I’m back! With every day that I’m sore, I know that it was worth it the day (or two) before!

WOD :

Strength- 6 x 2 Power Cleans

  • 6 rounds of 2 reps to find 2 RM (rep max) of cleans.  I got to 95#, which I think is pretty good considering my absence.

Metcon (Time) – 18 min time cap

  • 3 rounds for time:
  • 10 clean and jerk (65#)
  • 40ft HS walk*
  • 75 DU**
  • 40ft HS walk*

*Substitued for 60sec handstand hold

**Substituted for 150 SU

My rep count: 2 rounds + 75 SU (i.e. DNF).

I honestly expected as much, but I wasn’t disappointed. I probably could’ve gone a little more on my weight, but I’m taking it cautiously and slowly.  Old girl’s been away and I want to be kind to her! 😂

Tomorrow’s agenda will include a run after work! I am anxious to see how the strength training will improve my running again. I really took that for granted.  This is the lesson I was trying to teach Julian when he was #onearmbandit.  In my opinion, he really took his basketball playing/training for granted.   Thinking because he has a little skill and talent, that he didn’t have to work hard.  And when it was taken away, you really realize how much you miss and appreciate it. Now…it’s MY lesson.  I really took the fact that I was strong for granted.  I miss feeling that way, but I am enjoying the process back.  I am READY to bring my “A” game (with shoes, too!)

Ever have moments like I had today?

Oh, look what came in the mail this weekend….

…thats right….I did it!! Me and R2D2! 😉

Happy Monday and thanks for reading! ❤️

My INTENTIONS were good…

Hubs and I spent the weekend in Lido Beach,FL at Lido Beach Resort.  What a place!!

I literally wanted this room transferred to my house immediately!!! Seriously….who couldn’t live like this?? And then there was the view….

Will you look at THAT!?!?!?

While hubs went to his Saturday morning meeting, I got up and got my running clothes on to go for a quickie before meeting the ladies for breakfast.  I sat out on the balcony to put my shoes on…

…and this, my friends, is where the good intentions went straight.out.of.the.door!  I never made it for a run!!!  This view and the peaceful noise of the ocean made me stop in my tracks and just sit and enjoy.  I didn’t move for a whole hour! And the best part….I didn’t feel guilty! I can’t remember the last time I just sat with myself and enjoyed my surroundings. I just listened to the water; I watched the kids play in the pool; I saw a woman paddle boarding (which I want to try!!).

It’s possible I needed this, both mentally AND physically. I’m such a mission to get my body back and my times better, that I probably did myself justice by not doing anything. It was peaceful not to obsess about missing a workout/run.  I just thought “I’ll do it,tomorrow!“…and there’s nothing wrong with it. I enjoyed this day of non psychosis…. 😂

Sunday is here, and a new week has begun and I start refreshed. Today will be a good day for a run…no matter how far or how fast…outside or inside…..just done!

How was your weekend? What’s your workout week look like?

My SN (side note) goes out to the family and fans of the magnificent and multitalented artist, Prince.

Source: Google

I was a fan and I’ve never had the opportunity to see him in concert! I remember wearing out the cassette tape from Purple Rain! In college, I wore out the CDs to his movie  Graffiti Bridge and the all Prince soundtrack to Batman.  2016 has began with many artists that I grew up with leaving us; frankly it feels sad that I’m old enough to “say” goodbye to artists that (as one of my friends eloquently pointed out on FB) “made up the soundtrack for my youth.”  I’m glad that I was able to introduce my boys to your music….Julian’s favorite is Let’s Go Crazy”  and Aidan’s favorite is “Baby, I’m a Star“. May you #ROCKinPEACE, Prince.   You will be missed by many; there’s going to be one hell of a concert up there!!!💜

May the COURSE be with you, 31782!

YES!!! I was finally here!!!! The Inaugural Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend.  This race weekend, I opted for the 10k.  This is a distance that I really enjoy and haven’t had the opportunity to run in about a year (insert and see #onearmbandit posts from December!!).  I was nervous and excited and being at the Health and Fitness Expo just made it all too real!!

IMG_8969

The 3 day Health and Fitness Expo was located at ESPN Wide World of Sports IMG_8974
..and you could FEEL the force the minute you entered the property!!! The 5k was earlier on Friday morning, so you could already see some of the cool bling and tech shirts walking around.  Kind of made me wish I did the 5k too!

We made our way on in to pick up my swag bag…IMG_8970

You see how BUSY it is!!! There are SO many people!!!

IMG_9054

Who the HECK is Angela?? Am I in trouble or something???

There were so many people, but everything flowed well because of all the volunteers and Disney cast members. I got my race number and off we went to walk around the Expo.

I am thinking some one else was just as excited as I was to be there!!!

IMG_8977

It sure IS!!!!

IMG_8963

Kylo Ren is his MAN!!!

IMG_8964

Wise words, Master Yoda!!!

I had to resist the Dark FORCE to NOT buy anything at any of the vendors! And let me tell you…that was HARD!!! I don’t do that…that’s just not normal!! I did manage to convince Hubs to stay around a little and get some photos. He’s NOT the biggest Star Wars fan; he doesn’t hate it, but doesn’t really understand the FANdemonium, either! But that’s ok, because Aidan was with me, and he got it…

See what I mean???? #Vader77 #OGVillan

After hanging out at the Expo, we went to check in at our hotel. There were MANY people signed up for the all of the races this weekend and therefore many road closures. For transportation to the race, it was suggested to stay on a Disney property. Hubs surprised me by making reservation at the ONE Disney hotel that I have always wanted to stay…..

Grand Floridian

This place is BEYOND magical!!!

We stayed in Building 8….BOCA CHICA

YAY!!!

The hotel is reminiscent of Old Florida, like the times of Henry Flagler, John Rockefeller, and the like (see St.Augustine,FL ).  It was like stepping into a time warp, in a good way!!  All of the buildings are named after some of the  barrier islands in Florida.  The kids had a great time at the pool and we had a wonderful dinner at one of the restaurants on property.   We had an early evening because I had to get up early to catch the bus to the start.

How early did you ask???

DAMN!! That's early.....

DAMN!! That’s early…..

Yep…you read it right…3:10 AM to catch the bus at 3:30 AM.  All race participants needed to board the buses no later than 4 AM in order to get to the corral for the race start at 5:30 AM.  I was at Epcot by 4:15 AM, cleared the security, and hung around a little.  I managed to meet up with a high school friend, Kim, that I hadn’t seen in 20 years.  She was there with some friends to celebrate a 40th birthday.  It was so good to see her and catch up as we walked to our race corral.  (See you Kim for our NEXT 10k…but a lot sooner, please!!).  I was in corral C and trust me when I say, the ‘corral police‘ made sure you were where you were supposed to be!!  You can move back a corral (or two) but you can’t move up!  There were a total of 6 corrals (A-F) and we all started in waves.  The first wave was the Wheelchair racers at 5:29 AM and Corral A starting at 5:30 AM; each corral after that was at 3 minutes intervals. My corral came up…the countdown began…

....and GO!!!!

….and GO!!!!

The course took to the back part of Epcot and eventually through the park itself, by the World Showcase.  Hi Canada, Hi United Kingdom!!!     Down the Boardwalk and then we got to Hollywood Studios.  I paid close attention because I’ve never been there before!  I must come back and see it…in the LIGHT OF DAY!!  3 miles in…I’m feeling pretty good!

Between miles 3 and 4 brought some unexpected hills, which we all know I LOATHE!  You know when you are at a park, and you have that slight up hill walk to get to the next attraction? Yeah, well try and RUN that a few times!  #notFUN .  Some where along the way, we made it out onto the street (more like the highway) and we had to run up an on ramp (or down ramp, I can’t remember).  I was NOT prepared for this uphill battle and the force (ie my big behind) forced me into surrendering….to walk!  This slowed me down some, but I wasn’t the only one.

Mile 5 was approaching and I think I kinda felt like him….

Angry Darth Maul!

Angry Darth Maul!

I felt like I was further than this…but I wasn’t!  1.2 mile left!  A huge movie screen greeted us with scenes from The Return of the Jedi, when Princess Leia is riding through the forest, racing and battling the Stormtroopers.  That scene led us to the rocky, cross country like path that began the ending of the race (wasn’t prepared for THAT either!).  There were props from the movie to pose with, but I…..kept going!  As we entered towards the finish at ESPN Wide World of Sports, it started to sprinkle a little and that made me go faster! (I really don’t like running in the rain!!).

Official Time : 1:15.26

1353 out of 6919 Women

3533 out of 12169 finishers

My new BLING!!

A close up of the bling….

IMG_9040

I wasn’t in love with my time, but considering the course that I was completely unprepared for, I was ok.  Additionally, I hadn’t done the 10k distance in over a year, so considering this, I was ok.  I just have to do the distance again AND get some speed/hill work going!!!  As much as I hate hills, I know my time would be a little better had I been prepared.

NIce tech shirt, huh??

Nice tech shirt, huh??

Opinions on the race, as a whole?

My likes:

  • I thought the race was very well organized.  I had heard many “minuses” but I found it to be the opposite.  From the transportation to the start and finish, to the line up in the corrals, and to the ON TIME start….it all went so well!!
  • Fun with LOTS of costumes and people watching GALORE!!
  • You get to see the “behind the scenes” of the parks when all is shut down.  It was kind of neat being in the park when the “MAGIC” was off!
  • The after race photos with your medal(s).
  • The post race snacks were yummy!!
  • ...and I was HUNGRY!!!

    …and I was HUNGRY!!!

My dislikes:

  • I’m not really sure WHY this race was $110. I mean, this shirt and the medal were awesome. It was cool to have my name on my bib, but was ALL of this worth that price tag? #welcometoDISNEY
  • It’s not really a race that you can PR.  Many people stop to take pictures with the characters, mile markers(see above), and Star Wars props/memorabilia.  It was a little distracting, but I kept on running. You can do all this IF you keep up your pace (16 min/mile maximum).
  • The course was a little off for me…the hills and the rugged terrain.  I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it either (but I would race it again!!)

Oh…I forgot!  My outfit!!  I went with my favorite droid, R2D2

IMG_9042

IMG_9035

…and it has a HOOD, too!!!

I told you it would be anticlimactic and it paled in comparison to some of the costumes and original outfits, but I was happy with it!

I had such a great weekend, and now I can see why everyone loves to runDisney.

IMG_8973

Well, Mickey…add me to the list, because next year 10k…you WILL be mine!!! #maytheCOURSEbewithyou

IMG_8968

Congrats to all of you who participated in any and ALL of the races this weekend!!!

Thanks for reading! ❤

What events did YOU do this weekend??

T-minus…

…2 days and counting!  To what, you ask??

Yes,folks…it is almost here!  No…not the movie (which I DID buy the DVD last week)…the Star Wars Race Weekend at Disney.

I’m going to run the 10k on Saturday.  This is my first Disney race, so I’m excited and nervous all wrapped together.    Like most of the themed races, costumes are encouraged (with rules of course!). I’ll  give you a hint of who I’m leaning towards…

Cute, ain’t he?? Wonder how many R2D2s there will be?? Can’t wait to show you what I have to wear. Warning: it may be some what anticlimactic for you as a reader considering what some may wear. But I’m still excited!

The expo started today, which I won’t be able to get to until tomorrow.  This is when I pick up my race packet and see all the stuff I want to buy and take home! 😂 I’ll be able to bring you some info on the expo tomorrow. #excited

The race weekend includes:

  • 5k on Friday
  • 10k on Saturday
  • Half marathon on Sunday

Whew!!!!

I’m staying on Disney property this weekend with the fam, so getting to the race will not be challenging.    They have free bus transportation to and from the race because I hear that parking is no bueno and there are several road closures, as well. #ainthavingTHAT

Can’t wait to bring you all that is Disney racing from this weekend.  May the Force be with You!

Anybody else Disney racing this weekend??

Spring has SPRUNG…

“….the grass is RIS.  I wonder where the flowers IS?”.  This always makes me laugh because it was from one mine and my sister’s many Archie comic books.

We can be any where…and at any time…say the first part of the phrase and off we go! 😂.

So now that Spring is here, why not do a little cleaning?  I changed up the look of the blog…it’s a work in progress.

But just like everything I post, I’d love to hear what you think. Love it? Hate it? Change it back?

Thanks!! ❤️

Coming back to you….

Day #2 (second week) at CrossFit today.  I’ve never been one to look at a WOD before hand because I don’t want to mentally psych myself out. I asked  my friend Katelyn sent me the WOD once it was published.  I told her that I wanted to see what it was so I could decide whether or not I was going to punk out! 😂

I will tell you one thing…in my 6-7 month hiatus…I still HATE squats! Yes…I said it!! You know the adage “Ask and you shall receive“?  Most know (and if you don’t, now you do) that I do not like my legs.  So, one would try to work hard on the body part they dislike, right? Like said squats, etc?? Mais no!!! I have to hate the very exercise(s) that would make me love my legs! Also, any WOD that starts with”21-…..” deserves my full freak out mode!

The strength part of the WOD I enjoyed because I like deadlifts.  I managed to get my max at 195#. I’ll take that!

I had to modify the WOD today for a few reasons:

  • Just starting back and really have no desire to die so early!
  • If you think I hate squats, I doubly hate OHS! But seriously, I had to lower the weight because of my shoulder.  I wasn’t sure how much my shoulder would take a lot of weight and squatting!

It had a 15 minute cap on time.  Here’s how my WOD worked out:

  • OHS : 15#

    Source: Google

  • Hang cleans : 55#

    Source: Google

Time: 12:56

I have to say I was pretty happy with this time. I didn’t die, my shoulder held out very well (even with the small amount of weight), and I feel strong just being there and working my a** off! On the other hand…DOMS will set in and I will be walking like “The Duke” (aka John Wayne)!!

I’m happy to be back on this journey and I appreciate you reading and sharing it with me, 3M style! ❤️

I’m coming back to you, CrossFit! #boom

Hello, Mr(s). Goodbody….

Ok…well not yet, but I am making way back. How might you ask? I made my way back to CrossFit today. I can type this now because DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) hasn’t set in yet.  This is what I would like to get back …

MUSCLES!  Life happened and got in the way, but in fighting to get back.  Funny thing is, never really saw myself like this…until I didn’t seem myself like this anymore! You know….?

Today was the perfect day to go back and say “Hi” to some old gym buddies…

My friend (and former WOD and competition buddy) Katelyn sent me the WOD last night.  When I say former, it’s on my end because she is absolutely kicking a** in CF and in comps!!  She works out at another gym and I miss seeing and WODing with her, so I went to her gym.  I won’t lie…I missed being in the gym!  But I was nervous because I haven’t been in a box since September 2015.

The WOD didn’t seem to bad-

The Other Total was a 1 RM (maximum weight of a skill one time) of:

  • Squat clean
  • Bench press
  • OHS (overhead squat)

The Metcon was optional today…which for me, was great! I didn’t know how I’d feel/survive after the 1 RM exercises.

How’d I do?

  • Squat clean – 95#
  • Bench press- 95#
  • OHS – 65#

I’d say I’m just successful for just showing up!! 😂. But seriously…I was proud of myself for at least remembering what I was doing and for having the courage to be there.  I evoked the spirit of my girl, Wonder Woman….

 #boom #likemyGIRL #WW

(thanks Liz for the picture!!)
