It’s all about them PANTS….

Last weekend, I did my first 10k. I think I’m still riding on that high! I haven’t done ANYTHING this week because of kiddo activities,but then that’s nothing new either! 😉

Since it was so cold last week AND still cold, I wanted to invest in some running pants. True to form, I waited until the very LAST minute to get them (ie the night before)!! I went to Hibbett Sports and found a few pairs. I am really funny about my body (BIG SURPRISE on that one,huh??) and I don’t like form fitting clothes. Well..that’s really all that’s available!! And if you try to size up with the hopes that it isn’t so form fitting, you look like you have some “issues” in an area where we females shouldn’t have “issues”…get me????

I found a pair that I LOVE….right fit, right color…right fairly decent price. SOLD!! Only problem…they were Men’s pants. And there went my theory on those “issues” I mentioned, but they were perfect!

When I put them on, you couldn’t tell they were Men’s pants. I picked a Small size (….only time in my life THAT’LL happen!!)

They were perfect..kept me warm and held up during the “sweat fest”‘of the run. That Dri-Fit is NO JOKE!! Check out Nike’s official website for more running gear! I’m already eyeballing another piece of clothing….. #helloSANTA?

Hope I have a chance to get my money’s worth and wear them again during our Florida “Winter” weather. I am looking forward to the Christmas break, as I can make up for lost workout time from this week.

Yeah…that just happened!

This morning…this COLD Florida morning I did my first 10k. What do I mean by cold??

IMG_4950.PNGThis is the temperature right NOW but this morning, at race time…41 degrees!!. Nothing like the cold weather to get you moving! My friend, Sam (from our triathlon glory) ran with me. Yeah… I roped her in AGAIN she signed up with me again. 😉

I was EXTREMELY nervous this morning! I’ve never run this far IN.MY.LIFE! Five miles is the most I’ve ever run, so you can see WHY I thought I would die. Like meet my maker TODAY, die!😇 My stomach hurt…my heart was racing….I felt like POO!

The Jingle Bell race was for the Friends of The Winter Haven Library.

The proceeds help the library with necessary upgrades, new books, etc. Race time was 7 am and by the time the buzzer buzzed…I was ready and over my “issues” prior to the race. I didn’t get many pictures during the race…well…because I was running. 😉 Seriously though….I haven’t figured out the balance of running and taking pictures to post. #rookie. I want to concentrate on the run because I’m just NOOOOOOOT that good enough yet to just run a race all “willy nilly” and not thinking about it. But I’m working on it…..

It was a great course to run…a bridge was involved (HATE those!) in the middle and of course on the way back. I didn’t psych myself out like I normally tend to do. It was a fun race because many were dressed in their BEST Christmas running gear,socks, hats, you name it!! (Didn’t get any pics of that before the race because it was too darn COLD!!). You know what wasn’t really fun?? The BELLS!! Well, you ask, what would a jingle bell race be without jingle BELLS???

IMG_4959.JPGThis thing was strapped on to every runners sneakers, hats, headbands…WHATEVER. 🎶Do you hear what I hear?? 🎶. Ugh….I really didn’t like the sound of the bells with each heel strike, each passing runner, or each huff and puff. That was my only complaint.

I felt so good, so EMPOWERED after the race. I felt it wasn’t as hard as I thought it was going to be. It wasn’t that I “killed” the race, but for the first time in a LONG time, I just ran. Just for the sheer enjoyment of the run! I am feeling like I have checked off another “Want” off of my list….

10k✔️✔️

I am going to be sore, but it’s a different sore…a sore that I welcome because of my accomplishment.
I going to be honest, I have a little crush on 10k now and I am thinking I might have to leave 5k. 10k really makes me HAPPY, so the break up might be inevitable. I’ll always love you 5k, because you were my first, but I feel something I haven’t felt in a long time with 10k….passion for running again.

Busy Mom = Running HIATUS

I took a little break from running last week. NOT because I wanted to, but because the kiddos had many activities that week and I couldn’t find time to get it in. I think that’s one of the rules of successful running is to remember to incorporate rest into your plan….I just don’t think they meant a whole WEEK!! 😉

Basketball season is in full swing which meant saying “GOODBYE” to my lovely Saturday morning runs. It means “HELLO” to Saturday afternoon runs! I really don’t like running in the afternoon. Why?

1. The day is already started and my laziness is already on full OVERDRIVE. There is always something that has to be done…laundry, cleaning, football, basketball….you name it.

2. Let’s face it…it’s FLORIDA! And it’s HOT! This time of year it’s a little cooler but it’s not like our friends up north!

3. It’s harder to “convince” myself to get it done in the afternoon. (Refer back to #1). This is why I dressed in my running gear at the boy’s games, so when we got home, off I went!!

But Julian and Aidan LOVE basketball and how can you say NO to these faces???

I ran 3 miles yesterday. This is part of the prep for Saturday’s 10k. I wasn’t in love with my pace (I am about 1:30 minutes SLOWER than I am accustomed to) but the reality is that I don’t have the time to devote and dedicate to getting faster right now. That was HARD to write and put out in the universe. I don’t like to think that I don’t have the time, but the boys have needs and their needs are important. These are the sacrifices we make as parents. I am able to keep a fairly consistent pace, so I should be “ok” for the upcoming race.

This week I hope to have a few days for running. Nothing crazy because I don’t want to hurt myself before the 10k on Saturday. I can only get to the gym twice this week because of basketball and Scouts this week.

Oops….I did it AGAIN!!!

You know that you were thinking AND singing of the Britney Spears song, don’t lie!!! 😉

WHAT did I do again this time, you ask? I signed up for another race,but this time it’s not my normal 5k…..I am venturing into the Land of 10k!!!! That’s right folks…. I’m going to try the FEARED 6.2 mile run.

How do I feel about this adventure??
Let’s see….
To put it plainly….. I’m scared! I’ve never run more than 5 miles in my life (at one single time), so what on God’s green earth makes me think I can run 6.2 miles?? To say that I’m “bored” with the 5k distance, makes me sound like an up obnoxious runner!! (OMG….did I just refer to myself as a “RUNNER”???). To say that I’m “bored” with the 5k, makes me sound like I’m KILLING my 5k times (and I’m NOT!). But I am being honest with myself and knowing that I am settling into the 5k distance because it’s comfortable. It’s where I fell in LOVE with with running. At this point in time, is not going to continue to challenge me to become a BETTER runner, though. I think my body is accustomed to running 3 miles (is that even POSSIBLE???) and I don’t PUSH myself. It isn’t allowing me to burn calories as effectively as I should because I’m not MAKING myself leap out of the comfort zone! What better way to shake up your metabolism than increase your mileage??

So…there you have it!! All signed up and ready to go…..DIE! Oh….Remember my friend Sam that did the triathlon with me??? Yeah…. I dragged through into this too!!! I’m totally sure she’s going to unfriend me SOON, both in real life and on Facebook!

To put it plainly…I’m excited!! I’m excited at the prospect of trying something new and getting out of my comfort zone. I reminding myself that I am only in competition with myself. I have nothing to prove to anyone. I have to prove it to myself that I have the COURAGE to do this and to finish with grace. (SN: I won’t lie that I have a SELF IMPOSED time limit for this race, as I have to be to my son’s basketball game that morning as well!! No pressure, Angie!!! 😉). What better way to CRUSH that comfort zone than (to copy Nike) to “Just Do It??” (Thanks, Nike!!!)

Wish me luck, as I MENTALLY prepare over the next two weeks for this race. I’m just going to sit back, relax and enjoy the pace!!

How do you FEEL before something new??

The After Party….

Ok… really the after triathlon party because technically I’m STILL celebrating! Yesterday’s WOD was a good one for a post triathlon workout. Not too hard and NOT too easy either. The perfect balance…..

IMG_4540.JPGI finally got the courage to jump rope again! Remember SHINgate? I was apprehensive because there was running in the WOD and I didn’t want to revisit my HORRIBLE shin splints or be sidelined for 8+ weeks!!
Long story short…I SURVIVED! The Rx WOD had double unders (DU) but I opted for the singles (SU). Better not try and get TOO ahead of myself! 😉

I’m still sore from the race on Saturday so I didn’t get up and run this morning. I’ve usually debated when is “too soon” to return to your normal training. I try to give myself a few days, but not too many or I’ll fall off the wagon and get lazy!!!

IMG_4382.JPG…is to start back my morning runs because triathlon season is coming to an end soon AND…running season (for me) kicks into over drive. I look forward to “racing” during the fall and winter because the weather here in FL is so nice. I’m not having to choose between Hot, Hot, and HOTTER weather!

I will say that I am debating on one last triathlon in November. It’s the Tri on the Ridge. I have to get my bike to the shop and I’m not 100% sure that I will either get it THERE on time (typical ME) or get it OUT on time (also ME).

I’m also courting the idea of a 10k, but I’m still not convinced that I want CAN do that distance. We shall see……

Goals..Goals…Goals

We were asked to write our 2014 fitness goals at CrossFit right before the holiday.  It was so cute – we wrote them on a Christmas ornament and we decorated the tree with them.  Of course being the (wanna be) crafty person that I am…I totally wrote mine all fancy (or at least I TRIED!!!).  Well, there is something about writing your goals, then verbalizing them publicly.  It’s out there in the universe, so now you have to do something with that information.  So I was thinking…maybe that’s how some of the blogs I love to read started, right??  Why not start doing the same thing myself??? I figured what a GREAT way to hold myself accountable than PUBLICLY putting my goals out into the universe of CYBER space. Nothing scarier than that, huh??

So…here are my goals for 2014 (in no particular order):

  1. Do a 10k.  I’ve been “stuck” in 5k-land and I figured there isn’t any other way to break free unless I do it.  I haven’t officially signed up for anything….but it’s coming.  I am already at 5 miles for my long runs on the weekend and to be honest…I am LOVING the longer distance.  I don’t ever think that I will ever be enough of a stud to anything more than 10k, but…never say never, right???

2.  Complete Level I CrossFit Certification.  I have been CrossFit-ing almost 4 years, with the last 2 years being more of a commitment.  I figured I have learned a lot from CrossFit, I love all there is to working out, so why not??   What better way to combine the love for working out with my gift of gab then becoming certified and work on teaching??

3.  Triathlons.  I say “TriathlonS” because I have only managed to accomplish one per year since my first Sprint Tri in 2010.  I missed last year because of injury and I missed this year because…well….BECAUSE!  Life just got in the way and I couldn’t swing the timing for training!  NOT gonna happen in 2014.  I wrote down to do THREE in ’14!  Am I crazy?!?!?!?! Yep….

4. CrossFit Competition.  Well…..that’s coming really soon!  Like…JANUARY soon.  I signed up for a local competition a 2 day competition, none the less!!  What is so scary about this?? My first competition was a TEAM competition with my workout buddy.  Loved being a part of a team where we could push each other.  This time…INDIVIDUAL!!  OH.MAW.GAWD!!!  I am absolutely accountable for myself…having to find that inner strength to continue to push on through.

On the white board, next to the WOD (Workout of the Day) was a quote about goals… “46% of goals are kept if people write them down.  78% are achieved once they are told to another person”.  Is this true?  Is there some study that proves it? HELL…I don’t know.. but it sure SOUNDS good!!!   I’ve been back and forth about blogging…who’d be interested in what I have to say???  But today…I got the kick in the pants I needed.  My goals have been set and VERBALIZED in the most open forum that exists today…. the INTERNET!!!

So here’s to goals….here’s to KEEPING those said goals…and here’s to healthy and Happy New Year!!
