Boy, weekends sure go fast! They go even faster when you are busy! I started the weekend off with a 5k organized and hosted by the Brandon Running Association.  Outside of the yearly Gasparilla run (in Tampa), this is the closest run I’ve done by my home! And when I mean close, I mean 2 minutes from my house!  This was the 35th Annual Shamrock Classic 10k/5k/1 mile Fun Run. You all know I am a lover of all things St. Patty’s  Day, so let’s do this!!! πŸ€.

I’ve been meaning to this run but “life” hasn’t really allowed me to.  This year, the stars were aligned and I was able to get it on the race calendar.

The racing conditions were perfect…68 degrees by start time. We started (and finished) at O’Brien’s Irish Pub and Grill

This place is special because it’s where I healed Hubs surprise 40th Birthday party (6 years ago!! πŸ˜‚). I got my race bib..:.

…and we were all off! The 5k was an easy, flat, straight shot course.

The 10k did the same course twice.

Again I was star struck because I finally saw Amanda from Cupcakes and Miles! We were running and I thought I recognized her and so I just ran up and said “Hi!”.  This was unlike last Saturday when I saw Keira at a 5k in Winter Haven (FL) and totally flaked out! Amanda ran the 10k because she’s awesome! SN: if you aren’t following either one of their blogs, do yourself a favor…do it! We said we really needed to get together when we are racing locally so we can at minimum have a photo op and a chat!! Next time, Amanda!πŸ˜‰

I raced on Saturday with a heavy heart for a friend of mine.  She’s going through some tough times and I really just ran and thought and prayed.  I didn’t  focus on my pace or time;didn’t focus on the course; I just was some place different mentally. I have to say, I need to run like this more often.  Focusing on something else, someone else instead of my selfish me! I was blessed with a PR this race…43 seconds faster than last Saturday! I’ve been “preaching” about just enjoying the run and the process of getting back and it truly happens.  I wouldn’t want to have to have my friend go through what she is going through, but obviously when you just place your focus elsewhere, you can be successful!  I even feel selfish being happy that I PR’d!

I placed 6th in my AG, which made me happy. Of course I have no idea how many where in my AG (probably 6!),but I was happy to be there. It also means that I can place somewhere, maybe even higher next time! #psyched

The post race fare was great…the usuals (bananas, pretzels, bagels, PB) and hot food (pasta!!).  Then of course….beer!  I didn’t partake this time because Hubs and I had a date and I had to get going. Next time, BRA!  It was a great race and I am excited to participate in another BRA race. They have a 5k in December to add to my list.

How was your weekend? Any PRs?

How’s that for a number?  There are a few things I may be superstitious about, and this would be one! #13? Really?  I will wear the number with pride….and secretly hope I don’t cross a black cat, walk under a ladder, break a mirror, or spill some salt! πŸ˜‚#issues

Today was the Law Enforcement Torch Run 5k hosted by The Winter Haven Police Department.  I’ve wanted to participate in this run for some time, but scheduling always got in the way.  This run benefits Special Olympics.  My friend Leslie and I decided this was our year!

Me, Donald (Leslie’s son), and Leslie

It was a beautiful morning to run, from a weather stand point. But as an allergy sufferer, NOPE! Pollen was in full effect this morning and I forgot my Benadryl! #damn

The race started at the public library

 and went around Lake Silver..

This is an old photo but this lake is beautiful, day and dusk!  And the end of the race looped around Central Park

Source: Google

It was a great race for a few reasons…

  1. GREAT cause!
  2. GREAT community support! Teachers, Parents, and Students from the boy’s school, St.Joseph Catholic School.
  3. I spotted one of my favorite WordPress bloggers,Keira, but I was too afraid to go over and say “Hi” for fear of her thinking I was crazy or something!
  4. Leslie and I PR’d this baby!! Yep…we sure did! I saw a number today, that I hadn’t seen in a while!! I’m so excited and inspired to keep on pushing! #enjoyingtheprocess

What a great way to end this week!  Oh, and get this…my oldest, Julian, turned 15 on Thursday (March 10th)!!! What????

WHEN did that happen??? And apparently the right of passage includes a cell phone AND a learner’s permit.  Not in my house!!!πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚.  How ’bout we just get you some clothes and some Yeti gear! Yeah…that’ll work a lot better!!!

How has your Saturday been?

Enjoying the Process

I’m still basking in the glory of finishing the 8k on Sunday.  I’ve always been the type of “athlete” that needs the swift kick in the pants to recharge my motivation.  Especially when you don’t do as well as you’d liked/hoped.  I’m still enjoying the process, so on to other things…

I was sore on Monday, so I opted for a rest day instead of a run.  Simply put…I was TIRED from Sunday. Not really the race it getting up so early and then waiting for the race to start…I was just tired.

Tuesday, I was able to actually get home early and run at home.  For those of you who read 3M you know that most of my running during the week is done blaster work/before kids (mostly in Winter Haven,FL).  It’s always a treat to get home at a decent time (i.e. DAYLIGHT) and run in my neighborhood.

I managed 2.5 miles and it felt great.  I’m still in “positive split zone” but I’m still in it.

Today, J had his post operative appointment to…remove the staples! I’ve never seen anyone so happy to go to the doctor!

What does this mean? We are in physical therapy and 3 weeks away from him return to the contact of basketball playing! I think he actually skipped out of the office!

After the staple removal, off to physical therapy. What’s a mom to do while #onearmbandit is in therapy? Run!!! I was happy to squeeze in a run while he’s at work…

…I’m at work too!! 2.3 miles today, out in the cold Florida weather! (I’m talking in the 50s, people!!).

What’s up next for me? Winter Haven Police Department has a 5k in 2-3 weeks. All of these up coming runs (races and training). will all lead to Star Wars 10k at Disney in April!

What do you have coming up?

Have you just ever….

…had some runs that really make you feel like you ARE a runner???  I have ALWAYS been the type of “runner” that needs a race to help me understand and re-evaluate where I am.  I did the Turkey Trot with my sister in VA….

 ….remember??? #babySEEEEEster

Any way…I felt GOOD! And I haven’t felt that it a while! So, coming home I felt INSPIRED again.  I felt like I LOVED running again; I felt CHALLENGED again. Let me be clear, I didn’t fall out of love with running, I was just down because I haven’t seen the “numbers” (you know PACE numbers) I like or I am used to.  It’s disappointing when you think of your old self and how you aren’t living up to your OWN standards.  But as The Spinners say…🎢”I’ll be working my way back to you, BABE….”🎢😏.

The first evidence of my come back started with my run on Monday..

It felt GOOD. I was CONSISTENT.  My pace was under 10 (which it hasn’t been in months!). I was smiling…I was running and NOT thinking! I was ENJOYING IT again!

Thinking it was a fluke, when I ran on Wednesday, I didn’t know what to expect.  Leslie and I chose a different route, which always helps me.  Man….what a good idea because that was an even BETTER run!

Tomorrow’s run? Let’s hope it’s just as awesome!  I will be back on track with my weight training this weekend. (I got off track because of the holiday and being out of town😁).  I’m PSYCHED!

What have you done recently that made you feel good?

Oh….I received my race bling from the virtual race I did today!

 Cool, huh?? #bebrave #bethankful

Again, another holiday has come and GONE!!!  Man, I can not believe how fast time is going!

I was able to go visit my sister and her family in Haymarket (VA).  The kids were excited to spend time with their cousins.  I have been blessed with 3 nephews and one rose (i.e. Niece).  I took the  week off from work because the kids had off from school (STILL don’t understand why “we” need to have a whole WEEK off to eat turkey on ONE day!πŸ˜‰).

I just finished a nutrition program with Swim Bike Mom (SBM) right before the holidays.  Trust me when I say, it was VERY informative and VERY helpful.  I found that many of my struggles with food are not my own.  I found and bonded with MANY women just like myself who have the same “issues”.    If you are interested, check out her website. And FYI…the program starts up again on December 1st!  #getonIT

I convinced my”non running” sister to run a Turkey Trot with me! I use non runner in quotes because she and my BIL completed a Couch to 5k program and both HATE running and both are kicking my ASS in running!! Kicking my ass like running sub 9 CONSISTENTLY! #notHATING 😏. I guilted her into a run about 25 minutes from her house on Turkey Day at Freedom Aquatic Center in Manassas (VA).

Not only did I fun with my sister but I also did this run as a virtual run with SBM

which benefited ALS.  A fellow SBM triathlete Andrea Peet who was diagnosed with ALS last year.  All the race proceeds go towards researching ALS.  This was the first time I’ve done a virtual run (I’ve always been a little skeptical).  But since I was in the SBM nutrition program, I knew it was safe. I get race bling (a medal! YAY!) and a shirt (double YAY!).

She’s SO happy I made her go!!πŸ˜‰

I had to buy some new kicks prior to the race because the shin-ny,shin,shins were starting to get a little sore.   I bought them at The Running Store in Gainesville (VA not FL) where my non running sister shops. (Like how I squeezed that in??)

 Them Brooks Adenaline 16, baby!!

I raced well, shaving about a few seconds off my time. Mile 1 AND 2 where at 9:52 and 9:56, respectively.  I was pumped because I haven’t seen 9 ANYTHING months! #disappointed.   I kept up with a gentlemen during the race and we kept each other accountable when the other look like hey were slacking! I like that!  I am most proud of my sister, as she got a PR of 27 (and change).  I knew she’d do well!!  She’s so good and I hope that I can convince her to do another with me!  Except…I gotta train BETTER to keep up with my “non running” sister! πŸ˜‰

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving!  As always, I am thankful for you and your journeys that I am able to follow.  Thank you for coming with me on mine…..

I found myself dreading the alarm this morning.  Having an internal conversation with self…”Are you crazy?”; “I thought you said you were tired??”; “C’mon…can you just skip it JUST this once??”; “WHY are you doing this AGAIN???”.  I’m sure all of us have had this questions that self has raised! But then my feet hit the floor, self SHUTS her pie hole, and off I go!

This morning I drove to Plant City, FL. Those of us in the area know this were we get our STRAWBERRIES and we celebrate them with a festival every year in March.  It’s such a cute town that has managed to maintain some of the old charm while trying to continue to grow.  These towns are hard to find these days and I just LOVE them.

I participated in the Good Cookie 5k  IMG_7276which supports Cookies for Kids.  This organization helps fight pediatric cancer. This was a #winwin for me.

The race started at Union Station Depot where the Robert Willaford train museum is located as well as  the viewing platform….

..and continued through Historic Plant City (both downtown and residential areas).  Had I remembered, I would have snapped more pics, but self was focused now!!πŸ˜‰

I just love cobblestone streets…

The weather was perfect at 72 degrees with a little breeze and this is why I love running this time of year. Summer….you suck because Fall is my new friend!

Managed to shave only about 20 seconds off, but I’ll take it.  I’m still not at the pace I’d like to be…but I have to put more work in.  πŸ˜‰

I could no doubt EAT about that many cookies…
I had a great time with this race! It was small but it had a GREAT community to support it and an even GREATER cause that benefits from it.

Thank you, Plant City for hosting this race!

How did you start your weekend?

Here’s the Periscope link if you’d like to see it. Mind the comments some make…weird, and sometimes inappropriate….that’s something I still don’t get. Oh well…

RunGAB #4

Here it is….WEDNESDAY! And the end of the month! September?? Where did you go??  Off running…that’s where! So, as we ran the month away, we would talk about…

….that I found some new snacks! The QUEEN of snacks strikes again.πŸ˜‰.   I’ve known about Kind bars for a while but never had one.  Man….I missed that cue!  I’m glad I tried them because they are my new favorite!    This one is made with…wait for it…..COFFEE! #yes

…that I signed up for a 5k this weekend.

I got off my ASS and decided I didn’t need to wait for anyone to participate.  I’m becoming more and more comfortable with going by myself.  I’m loving it…

…I need to submit a time for a race BEFORE the Disney race.  The fine print on the registration states that a 10k time needs to be submitted by January 2016.  Guess I’m gonna have to do one!πŸ˜‰. I’ve have one on my radar for October and the one I did last year in December.  We shall see…

…I’m going CRAZY at work!! Our office is transferring to electronic medical record (EMR) and it is driving me nuts!!  Today’s run (our gab and the DREADmill) was all thanks to “EMR Frustration“.

I turned the negative into a positive! #runLAFITNESS

Thanks for listening and for the chat!

How was your Wednesday?

I had my post triathlon race on Saturday.  The Faster with Fitniche 5k in Lakeland (FL) was a great way to start the (or my) Fall 5k season.  The summer is HARD for me to keep up with running….my pace is SLOWER, my DESIRE isn’t there, and it’s just too HOT!

I hadn’t done those race for about 4 years, and it was nice to add it back on my “list”.  It is run through Lakeside Village before opening hours.  It began at Fitniche

and at 7:30am the weather was a PERFECT 74 degrees! #helloFALL. I was feeling very good about this race.  I was with my best running friend…ME!πŸ˜‰. I am finding the comfort in signing up for a race and not worrying about who’s going with me or who’s racing with me.  I have come to realize that if I want to do the race, do the race. I mean, I’m the one who is actually doing it,right?  Why should it matter if someone signs up with me?? I guess I see people talking and chatting before the race and it always feels kinda of weird that I’m not doing the same.  I run (or bike and swim), I finish, and I pack up my s**t and go.  Sad,huh?  Any way….we race!

It was an easy flat course…

 (Sorry for the BAD pics…!)

As always I find one person to follow and try to keep up with…

I’m coming for you, lady in pink!! πŸ˜‰. I didn’t get her but she was constantly in my sights!!  That made me push harder….and how do I know? I literally wanted to puke when I crossed the finish line.  And….wait for it..cut 1 minute off my time!!! It is still not where I am accustomed (or better yet, WANT) to being, but I see a light at the end of the tunnel!  Sub 30..I’m coming for ya!!!!

Beer (and Root Beer) was provided after the race…

    …but I didn’t stay. 😒.

I was happy and went on with my Saturday.

How was our weekend?

Oh…PLEASE pray that I get in to the Disney Star Wars 10k!! Registration starts TOMORROW at noon!!πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™

If we were running together now, I’d let you know…

…..I am doing better this week with my food intake.  It’s a DAILY struggle, but it’s worth it!

I am still trying to figure out HOW to fit in a triathlon this season.  My first was cancelled and I feel like I’ve lost my mojo! I’m thinking about doing one in 3 weeks…

I did this series last year in Clermont (FL).  This race is the last in the series, so why not!?!?  I need the boost.

I am considering doing a Disney race! But not until next year.  Registration for the Star Wars Half Marathon-The Dark Side opens September 22.  I have always heard these races are FUN and who doesn’t love SW???  I tried to sign up one time, but my waffling decision making skills caused the delay in registering and therefore MISSING a slot because is SOLD OUT!  I would like to do the 10k because a half just doesn’t seem possible to do…for me!

I am planning a 5k race for my kids school for next year. 😁. I’ve run MANY but have never been on the operations side of the business. Any advice?

….I have survived the first 2 weeks of my kids being back at school! I crave the routine but NOT the homework routine! Ugh…..

That’s it for today’s RunChat!  I’ll see you for our next run to chat some more. Next Wednesday??

End of the Series…

Yesterday was the last in the Watermelon Series in Lakeland.  It’s a 5k series over the summer that helps to keep you motivated to run.  This summer has been INCREDIBLY hot and it was HARD to stay motivated this year.  This year, I missed the middle two races – I was out of town for one and I had a triathlon for the other (which by the way was CANCELLED at the last minute!), so I was really looking forward to this race.

It felt incredibly good to run! I just ran for the sheer enjoyment of it.  I’ve been very frustrated lately with myself- my body (as a result of my diet), my running, and my lack of gym/CrossFit time.  I promised myself that I wasn’t going to let all of these self doubting thoughts get me down and make me loose site of my goals.  I just want to be a successful RECREATIONAL athlete.  Success measured by MY goals and mine alone.  So…

  • If I don’t PR for my race, just celebrate the run and be PROUD that you finished!
  • Baby steps towards my goal! Remember that “Rome wasn’t built in a DAY”
  • When in doubt…just keep going!!

Donald (Leslie’s son), Leslie, and Me! We look so happy, don’t we??? πŸ˜‰. I am extremely proud of Leslie because I coaxed her into this series and even though I missed two of them, she continued on!  My running buddy is STRONG and I hope she knows how AWESOME I think she is!!❀️

Until next year…..
