I ADMIT it…

….I am a snacker!! There….I said it! I would rather snack than have a meal! Over time, I have learned to scale it back and make better CHOICES as I snack!

Oh how I LOVE thee, tortilla chips!! ❤️.

But…look at some of the yummy snacks I’ve found in my travels this week.

These barbeque quinoa (KEEN-wha) chips are lovely!! They have all the crunch and taste of a potato chip without all of the bad stuff!

They also come in Sea Salt flavor

You see that there is hardly any sugar and all that protein??  Both of these bags I found at TJMaxx (waiting in line!!).  They were $2.99 and I did see them on Amazon for $2.89! SCORE!!!!!

Within the same week, another trip to TJMaxx (to take back something and switch out sizes…I swear!!) caused me to find another snacks-poo! 😉

Oh…are these good! It’s like having a mini rice cake with blueberries!

Darn you, TJMaxx!! Not only do I find great clothes but I find great snacks, too!!

Do you have any favorite snacks?? Please share because I’m always looking for new ones!!!😉😂

It’s the LITTLE things…..

It is true…it’s Spring Break! It doesn’t mean what it used to mean as kid…or NO SCHOOL!  What does it mean to me as an adult and a parent?? I get to sleep IN!!  I get one more GLORIOUS hour of slumber!  #itstheSMALLthings. The one extra hour means…

  • NO rushing to get ready (partly my fault because I watch whatever “show du jour” I picked on Netflix while getting ready😉).
  • NO arguing for little man (Aidan) to get up and shower.
  • NO brotherly arguing about what to what to watch while eating breakfast.
  • A peaceful ride to work with no school drop off.
  • Listening to what I want on the radio/iPod.

Nothing beats a slower morning pace. I honestly didn’t remember that the boys were on break until my alarm went off as usual at 4 am.  It hit me like a bullet….and I reset the alarm and went right back to sleep! #sweet

Then, I felt bad because I could have better utilized that time to get up and go for a run, but it’s TOO dark! Not that I think I’m a hot commodity or something but I don’t want to be in any harm’s way, you know??

I left my house, basking in my total selfishness. And what better way to complete the circle of selfishness than a stop at Starbucks!!!  I always stop to get my coffee when I don’t have to take the kids to school, so today would be no different. Again…the little things!

I hadn’t had breakfast at home, (completely out of Almond milk!  Julian apparently likes it, too!) therefore I opted to have something from the menu.

Uhhh, yes! I’ll have some!!!

Herty Blueberry Whole Grain Oatmeal is what’s for breakfast. It comes with fresh blueberries and agave syrup. Oatmeal nutrition facts (Straight from Starbucks’ website):

  • 220 calories
  • 2.5g fat
  • 5g protein
  • 43g carbs – 13g sugar; 5g fiber

Blueberries:

  • 20 calories
  • 0g fat
  • 0g protein
  • 5g carbs – 1g fiber

Agave syrup : I couldn’t find on their site but I imagine it can’t be much considering it is a small packet.

I’d say that’s not bad…. It filled me up and it was a GREAT way to start my morning.  On with the work day……

Questions-

How often do you indulge on those “selfish” mornings? What do you do?

Anyone doing anything fun during Spring Break??

Blueberries….I got your BLUEBERRIES…!

Today, the family and I went to the Tampa Bay Blueberry Festival. I found a Living Social deal – admission for 2, free parking (normally $5), and 4lbs of U-pick blueberries. ABSOLUTELY jumped on this deal!!

20140427-200252.jpgIt is located at Keel and Curley Winery in Plant City, FL (about 30-ish minutes outside of Tampa and less than 15 minutes from me in Valrico).

20140427-200810.jpg I’ve been DYING to pick blueberries because I thought it would be a good experience for the boys. I’m the only one in my house that loves blueberries, so I’m IN!!

The festival was cute…it had plenty of vendors of all types, both independent and franchises – food, crafts, and jewelry….and DESSERTS.

Lots of booths with homemade foods like salsas, jams/preserves, spices, and olive oils. NICE!!

Wine tasting from the winery (grapes and blueberries) and craft beers were readily available for your tasting pleasure!

20140427-201110.jpgWe had the boys with us, so we didn’t get to partake in the tastings. Don’t get me wrong, we had a few beers, but not too many! By the way, you couldn’t have any of the nectar of the GODS until you had one of these…

20140427-201342.jpgJust in case you didn’t know or remember, I’m over 21. HELL….I’m over 31!!! If you really must know…I’m over 41!! #damnI’mOLD

Part of our Living Social deal was a free bottle of wine from the winery. We could select from 10-12 types of wine. After much thought (like 3 seconds), we selected a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon.

20140427-203133.jpg(You like my toes and laundry in the background?) Fingers crossed…hope it’s good. But then, can you really be upset at a free bottle of wine?!?!? 🍷
SN: Have you seen what a grape looks like on a vine? I hadn’t until today…..

20140427-211842.jpgNEAT!

The boys had a good time, despite the fact that it felt like 1000 degrees and a gazillion people were there.

20140427-203519.jpg

It was time for the other meaning of the day…U-pick blueberries!!! I was able to see for the first time where those lovely blueberries came from…

20140427-205330.jpg

20140427-205450.jpgIsn’t that neat??? So we are on our way, when we hit this sign…

20140427-205606.jpgUmmmm…WHAT?!?!?! What do you mean “No U-pick” today?? This is why I’m here, to pick some DERN (that’s right…DERN) blueberries!! Apparently that had a record number of 8000 people on Saturday, so it was closed for picking until next Saturday! BOO!! They all took my blueberries!!! #greedy

But wait….in my quest to teach my kids something other than an iPod/iPad, Kindle or anything electronic, we saw a blue sight amongst the unriped berries.

20140427-210016.jpgOur U-pick turned into A-pick , as in we picked A blueberry. How ’bout them apples???
Oh yeah….and I ATE that A-pick berry, too! I sure did!!!

All in all, the weekend was good because I was able to spend it with my family. We are all so busy during the week, it sure is nice to have a day just for us…with or without blueberries!

What did you do this weekend?
Anyone have any good blueberry recipes??
