Coming back to you….

Day #2 (second week) at CrossFit today.  I’ve never been one to look at a WOD before hand because I don’t want to mentally psych myself out. I asked  my friend Katelyn sent me the WOD once it was published.  I told her that I wanted to see what it was so I could decide whether or not I was going to punk out! πŸ˜‚

I will tell you one thing…in my 6-7 month hiatus…I still HATE squats! Yes…I said it!! You know the adage “Ask and you shall receive“?  Most know (and if you don’t, now you do) that I do not like my legs.  So, one would try to work hard on the body part they dislike, right? Like said squats, etc?? Mais no!!! I have to hate the very exercise(s) that would make me love my legs! Also, any WOD that starts with”21-…..” deserves my full freak out mode!

The strength part of the WOD I enjoyed because I like deadlifts.  I managed to get my max at 195#. I’ll take that!

I had to modify the WOD today for a few reasons:

  • Just starting back and really have no desire to die so early!
  • If you think I hate squats, I doubly hate OHS! But seriously, I had to lower the weight because of my shoulder.  I wasn’t sure how much my shoulder would take a lot of weight and squatting!

It had a 15 minute cap on time.  Here’s how my WOD worked out:

  • OHS : 15#

    Source: Google

  • Hang cleans : 55#

    Source: Google

Time: 12:56

I have to say I was pretty happy with this time. I didn’t die, my shoulder held out very well (even with the small amount of weight), and I feel strong just being there and working my a** off! On the other hand…DOMS will set in and I will be walking like “The Duke” (aka John Wayne)!!

I’m happy to be back on this journey and I appreciate you reading and sharing it with me, 3M style! β€οΈ

I’m coming back to you, CrossFit! #boom

Hello, Mr(s). Goodbody….

Ok…well not yet, but I am making way back. How might you ask? I made my way back to CrossFit today. I can type this now because DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) hasn’t set in yet.  This is what I would like to get back …

MUSCLES!  Life happened and got in the way, but in fighting to get back.  Funny thing is, never really saw myself like this…until I didn’t seem myself like this anymore! You know….?

Today was the perfect day to go back and say “Hi” to some old gym buddies…

My friend (and former WOD and competition buddy) Katelyn sent me the WOD last night.  When I say former, it’s on my end because she is absolutely kicking a** in CF and in comps!!  She works out at another gym and I miss seeing and WODing with her, so I went to her gym.  I won’t lie…I missed being in the gym!  But I was nervous because I haven’t been in a box since September 2015.

The WOD didn’t seem to bad-

The Other Total was a 1 RM (maximum weight of a skill one time) of:

  • Squat clean
  • Bench press
  • OHS (overhead squat)

The Metcon was optional today…which for me, was great! I didn’t know how I’d feel/survive after the 1 RM exercises.

How’d I do?

  • Squat clean – 95#
  • Bench press- 95#
  • OHS – 65#

I’d say I’m just successful for just showing up!! πŸ˜‚. But seriously…I was proud of myself for at least remembering what I was doing and for having the courage to be there.  I evoked the spirit of my girl, Wonder Woman….

OPERATION NO FLUFF in full effect!!!

Have you done something recently you haven’t done in a while? Talk to me….

Today was a GOOD day…

Why do you say? I mean..it was MONDAY! And no one is excited for a MONDAY!  Work was…well…work, so nothing new there.  I was able to run after work, which always makes momma HAPPY!  I’m not breaking any records here, usually a smidgen under 2 miles (because my ass is SLOW now!) but I’m pleased to do it!

I’m now focused on returning to my “glory” days of running!  I’m trying to get my breathing pattern back with improving my strides.   So much of running (and running properly) is breathing properly and I used to have it on lock!!   I am focusing on getting my groove back!  I’ve also noticed (and not recently) since CF and I have consciously uncoupled (temporarily,I hope) my running isn’t what it used to be!  Some runs, I feel like I’m starting from scratch with this running thing.  But I have nothing to prove to anyone, except for ME!!

I have goals, I’m just getting there slowly because I am a busy mom!

Why else was today good? Again…since the uncoupling…I finally go to the gym and touch the weights again! The personal trainer that works with my basketball loving son, Julian, kindly wrote/designed a program for me! Today was Day 1.  I was so excited to start lifting again!! Man…I missed it!!  What did I do on Day 1, you ask? Glad you asked…

Squats– 5 sets x 8

Bench press – 4 sets x 8

Deadlift – 4 sets x 5

Overhead press – 3 sets x 8

Bend over DB Row – 4 sets x 8 each arm

Triceps extension – 3 sets x 8

*rest 2-3 minutes between each set

That’s a lot!!! And as I type…I can feel the muscle soreness! I won’t be able to MOVE tomorrow…and I LOVE it!! My weight started low and I worked my way up to a challenging weight for me now.  No lie…it felt great to be on THAT side of the gym! All those people lifting is inspiring!

I’m excited to see how my body will change ( again…for like the  UMPTEENTH time!!).  I need to find a routine that I can stick with on or off season!  Keep you posted!

How was your Monday???

Oh…I may just have a liiiiiiiitle bit of a KIND bar problem.  I was in Publix picking up ONE item and I walked out with…

   ALL OF THEM!! #embarrassed #rehabplease

 And your funny for today…

 #droppedtheMIKE   #puttheKINDbarsdown

You know it’s funny, because you hate your scale and you kinda do this! I do!! πŸ˜‚

Oh no I didn’t….!

Today I had to say goodbye to my beloved CrossFit box, CrossFit UFPC.  Why??? My kiddos schedule just doesn’t allow me to get to the 5:30 class, 3-4 times a week like I used to.  Julian has pre-season/off season basketball skills training 2 days per week and strength training 1-2 days a week.  Aidan just started back with Cub Scouts once a week.  This leaves me…empty handed! πŸ˜‚. No…seriously…I can get in a little bit before pick up and that’s the reality.  Like today…

Then…a bright star, in the shape of a great idea, showed up!!  I have a LA Fitness less than 5 minutes from my house!!!  Now…I’m not going to lie…I felt all sad and embarrassed that I had to join a “gym” to get my workouts on!! I’ve been doing CF for    almost 6 years and sometimes the CF culture doesn’t embrace the “globo gyms” culture (or at least that’s what it seemed to me). How was I back at a “regular” gym after doing CF for so long?? #snob. I need the strength training..so, I jumped ship and landed at a petty cool place.

Julian can play ball while I workout…and he’s all too happy about that!

I snapped him playing a pick up game with some high school players.   #basketballHEAVEN

 My view from the mat…

I figured I’ve done enough CF to do it on my own.  I can go back and repeat some old WODs or find new ones on Pinterest.  Interested?  Take a look at my Pinterest board.

Today’s WOD, you ask?

50 pounds for squats ( I did back squats) and 30 pounds for the KB swings.  WOD completed in 7:28.  I lay here tying the post and my legs are SORE!!!  Not bad for a Monday …

I’ll keep you posted of all the fun things I get to do at the gym.  Trust me…there is MUCH more!!  I hope to drop in and do some CF sometime

How was your Monday?

Don’t forget those prayers for tomorrow at noon! #runDISNEY

Thus far….

This week has been good, thus far, at least on the exercise front.  πŸ˜‰

Monday – Leslie and I, fresh off our 5k from Saturday, got a run in.  Thankfully… torrential Florida rain (ie “there was a TS brewing”) gave us afternoon showers, which lead us to “not so HOT Hades” weather for our run!  This was a good run for me, just like Saturday.  Maybe this whole “running with my Polar but not obsessively looking at it for my pace” thing is working.  I just ran….

 …and it was NICE!

My shins are a little sore, mostly on the right, from those DAMN jump ropes at CF last week!! Remember I suffered the WRATH from the multitude of double unders last year?? This is NO way the same, but it is a touch sore but a different side than before. #treadLIGHTLYangie

Tuesday- we AGAIN got the run in!  Another HOT day (whoa..what a SURPRISE!!) for a run!  It was 100 degrees that registered in the car when I left work.  I forgot my Polar at home on the charger, so I ran without today. Like I said before, it was nice…liberating, almost.  A struggle though…as I am used to trying to get back to MY pace.  Apparently the secret is to NOT look at it….

A nice little jaunt before pick of up the kiddos.  The shin did well, but I did put my compression hose on.  I DON’T want a reoccurrence of last year! #hellNO

Tomorrow- going to try and either go to CF or do a CF-inspired WOD.  Wish me luck! πŸ˜‰πŸ‘

Oh…

Happy Mommy Moment!!!  Aidan came to me and said that he wanted to have the FASTEST TIME in the mile in his grade (3rd, that is) this year (like his brother, mind you).  He asked me if I could show him how to use the DREADmill.  It was so cute!! If I wasn’t so CHEAP, I’d pay WP for the ability to upload videos, and then you could see him! If you follow me on IG, you can see the Master at work!

Blurry DREADmill shot!!πŸ˜‚

After the WORK is done! 0.25 mile, but hey…it’s a start!!  Hope he keeps it up!

That’s Me, AGAIN!

I literally saw myself in the mirror changing after a run…”WHOA, what was that there??was my first thought.  My second? “How did I let this happen..AGAIN??”  Somewhere along the time-space continuum (ie kids school, kids activities…),my diet   SUFFERED.  I made ok choices and started back to some old habits and behaviors. You know…thinking I could out exercise a blah diet.  I was so proud of myself and had done so well around March and keep going strong.  My body was changing (for the better) and I was happy with what I was seeing.  Clothes fit better…I had more energy…I didn’t obsess about my weight.  Then, something happened, but the sad part is…it wasn’t anything specific! It just.CREPTED.BACK!  Back on it…as I say!

Yesterday, I was able to run with Leslie and my other friend, Tracy (fellow Mom, fellow runner/triathlete, all around FUN gal).

We “only” got in 1.6ish but again…in this FL heat…I’ll take it!

SN: I’m secretly (or maybe not SO secretly) trying to get fellow parents from our kiddos school together for a group to run.  I got Tracy with us…and I’m recruiting more!! πŸ˜‰

Today, was my first day back at CF in a MONTH!! Ugh! I’m ashamed….  It was a nice easy one to get back to:

  • 30 DU/90 SU*
  • 10 slam ball squats 25#
  • 5 slam ball S2OH 25#
  • 10 slam ball Russian twists

It was 15 min AMRAP and I completed 6 rounds.  I was pleased considering…

Diet has been in point this week.  I am going to bed earlier, drinking more water, and snacking on the good stuff.  I’m back at the gym, getting more running and genuinely pleased that it has been easy to transition back to what worked for me before.  I will keep this in mind as I keep moving..

This is what I looked like just 2 years ago with my WOD partner, Katelyn. (LOVE that girl!!!).  I work hard and I’m going to work HARDER to get back. My WOD partner looks AH-mazing now (she didn’t look back before!).  Her muscle are INSANE!! I’m coming back to you, muscles!! SN: I used to think I looked AWFUL then.  What I would give to look awful like that NOW!! πŸ˜‚

  My life….! #now #butNOTforlong

I got my SWEATS ON!!!

No…I don’t have my sweat PANTS on, I mean I my SWEATS ON from yeaterday’s WOD!  It was another pleasurable Florida day…like 100 degrees “pleasurable” day!  I was sweating BEFORE the WOD even started!!!

Doesn’t look TOO bad, right?? WRONG!!  Remember I’ve always said….the ones that LOOK the easiest are the ones that kick your ASS!!! #whiteboardLIES

Managed to pull 10 rounds out of you-know-where and was DRENCHED in sweat! (ie…got my SWEATS ON!!).  My hair that normally looks like this….

 …looked like THIS…

I sweat the damn STRAIGHT out of my hair!  I went from straight to curly (my natural hair) in less than 20 minutes!! πŸ˜“πŸ˜

I can tell you that this AMRAP burned some GOOD calories too

My new TOY….Polar M400

305 calories in that 20 minutes. #meLIKEY

I’ll tell you about the toy in another post ( = “I’m still working out the KINKS” or better yet “I’m still trying to figure it OUT!”)

Today is break day because Aidan has basketball practice at 7-9 PM!!! 😁

How was YOUR Monday???

Hello, Thursday!

I feel like I haven’t posted in a while…like FOREVER!  I made it to Thursday! Seems like a BLUR!  My morning running routine took a little pause this week (with a set date of return NEXT WEEK!).  If you remember, Monday called for an early morning wake up! So NO early run then! I went for a run and went to CF after work.

Tuesday,  I chose to take off because I was tired. I’m ok with the rest day…πŸ˜‰. I literally allowed me to veg on the couch and do nothing! Some times those things/moments are PRECIOUS! #itstheLITTLEthings

Wednesday, I didn’t get up to run because I chose to stay up late to watch the GS Warriors take on (and BEAT) the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday evening.   Kinda hard to get up early when you stay up late! #moron. Aidan had basketball practice that evening.  He plays on a 3rd grade team and they have a game coming up (so cute!!).  Any way…they were able to practice at University of South Florida Pam and Les MUMA Basketball Center.  It was AMAZING!!

There are 2…count them 2….practice courts with multiple hoops to accommodate the team playing full court or skill drills.  Aidan was in basketball heaven…

He looks like a little ant on the court!!  While he was practicing, I went for a run around campus.  I have only ever been a few places on campus and now I can add this building to the places I have seen.

See the Sun Dome?  That’s right where we were on campus.   It was SOOOOOOO hot out there! I ran about 7pm and it was still HOT as the Devil’s house itself! πŸ˜‰. On a side note, I am finding that running in the evening is becoming more and more undesirable!  It’s making me NOT want to run! I feel like I’m running with weights on my legs….it’s hard to get moving FASTER when I feel like I’m running through mud!  But I keep on trucking…

Today (aka Thursday) I found myself back in CF.

Does that SERIOUSLY say 105 deadlifts AND push-ups???  Of course it does!!! I got it done and then went for a run.  A short and sloooooooow run!

My JANKY running app didn’t start on time, so it missed a few increments from my total mileage.  Don’t be TOO impressed, because I only ran 1.05 because it was hot (see above) and my ass and hamstrings were killing me from 5 bazillion deadlifts!! #gonnaHURTtomorrow

I haven’t really planned for tomorrow, in terms of exercise.  Hubs put our bike together…

 so…maybe???

We shall see what Friday has in store for me. πŸ˜‰

How have you all been?

Summer Work

Monday…you have come and GONE!  I had an EARLY morning because Julian left had to be at the church….at 4 am!!! Why in God’s name?? YES….that IS why!!  πŸ˜‰. He and his fellow Middle School youth “groupies” left for Hidden Lake in Dahlonega, GA.  It’s a Catholic youth group camp that he was all too excited to attend this year.  This is his second (and last) year at this camp.  Next year…he goes with the high school students! (NOT ready to talk about that yet!πŸ˜‰)

He looks “ready” to go!!

After all the kiddos checked in, they loaded onto the bus and OFF they went..

Apparently…teenagers are too COOL to smile!!!πŸ˜‰

It was sad to say “goodbye” but seeing how happy and excited he was to go, it made it all better!  My baby is growning up!!! 😒. He will be gone for 6 days.

Aidan also started his camp too!

……but he’s coming home! πŸ˜‰ #knockedOUT

Despite being up at the CRACK of dawn, I was able to get a workout in.  I met with my friend, Tracy, for a run.  It was a new route for me in town.  The Auburndale TECO trail was available to run.

Again another “quickie” before getting Aidan from camp.  It was so STINKIN’ hot!  I’ve said this before…I think I saw DEVIL!! 😈. But guess what? I made it to the gym, too!  What to?  To this on that DAMN whiteboard……

Ok-KAY!  I am going to pay for tomorrow!

So…I rest….waiting to see what Tuesday brings me! Soreness….Pain….Regret…to say the LEAST!!!

How was your Monday??

This didn’t sum up my Monday…. …it’s just Hilarious!!! #droppedthemike

The LONELIEST

I don’t care what Three Dog Night sang, because “one ISN’T the loneliest number that you’ll ever do”!! (Still not sure what that means, but I’m going with it!). NINE is the loneliest number that you’ll ever do…in a WOD!  (seriously….I can find a song for anything!  #uselessinfo #inTHIShead).

There’s that whole new respect for the number 9…9 minutes and 9 of each movement!  Doesn’t EVER seem like it’s “that bad” until you are all into it!  #whiteboardLIES. No matter HOW bad you hate it while you are doing other, you’ll NEVER regret getting your ass to the gym!!  I did 6 rounds and 1/3 of the way through the 7th round.  Funny thing…… during this WOD, I went to a lower weight because I’m just starting back.  I figured 12kg kettlebell was sufficient.  I  got caught!! I wasn’t purposely trying to be sneaky (yes I wasπŸ˜‰) and the trainer switched the weight while I was doing my push up. #BUSTED.

Happy CrossFit gal!!

The workout ended with an abdominal Tabata ( 20 seconds of work, 10 seconds of rest. Repeat for a total of 8).  I’m tired…..

In working on getting in the pool next week, as I STILL haven’t gotten off the “pot” and registered for the the May Tri.  I fear I won’t be ready, but I still have a month!!

How was your day?
