Run, Angie…..RUN!

Whoa…yesterday’s WOD had me sitting here…laying in my BED at 10pm (rare) ready to go to sleep (EXTREMELY rare). What a WOD…

20140602-222618-80778590.jpg3 minute rest and then….

20140602-222659-80819528.jpg
Since I am doing a triathlon in July, I NEED desperately to run. Yesterday, was the first official day back to running. It was great to be back…but it was a HORRIBLE run! I only did one mile, to see how my sea legs were. Ugh….
I thought I was going to DIE! How does one person go from 3-5miles to THIS in a short time? SHIN SPLINTS!!!

I won’t let this deter me…
I will stick to it, so I may get back to the thing that I love.

You KNOW what…..?????

….I RAN today!! Why is this a big deal??? Because I ran for the the first time in 1 month! I haven’t run because of some #^*#++} shin splints!!! I ran in the WOD today with NO pain! I was so excited that I don’t know what to do with myself!!! I am ready to get back in the saddle. As a side note…I thought I was going to die! One month off…the body doesn’t LIKE! Muscle memory, my a**!! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Today’s workout…

20140512-212350.jpg
S2OH = Shoulder to Overhead. Any way you can get the bar overhead from rack position (ie. Push Press or Shoulder Press)
This WITH the runs? Whoa….
But I sure didn’t care because…I got to RUN with NO pain!!!!. Have I said that before???

This truly made my day…

20140512-220657.jpg(From “Run the Edge” FB page….THANKS!!)

How was your day??

Wheelchair PLEASE!!!

Again with the old adage “Be careful what you wish for…“. I asked for legs…BABY, I got it!!

20140428-223842.jpgDid I mention it was 4 ROUNDS!!! Holy legs, Batman!! As you probably know, I won’t feel it in the morning, but as the day progresses…I’m gonna PAY for it. That’s whatcha call “DOMS” or Delated Onset Muscle Soreness. Usually doesn’t hit until anywhere between 2 -3 days after the exercise. So…no later than Wednesday…I will be in a wheelchair!

20140428-223818.jpgOh boy….That’s me!!! #skerred

My shins held out on the box step ups. I lowered the height of the box from my norm. I usually use a 20″ and I downgraded to a 16″ for today, and maybe for a bit, while I heal. Ugh……

Since “Shin-gate”, I am strongly fighting the urge to feel (and to verbalize) like such a wimp! But quickly, I put myself in check because they’re many people would might love “just” using a 16″ box! I need to learn that my pity party has to stay inside of me (and/or on my blog ๐Ÿ˜‰). That’s another self defeating attitude that I am working on! One of the MANY things that has to change, as all that negativity, just beings me down. br />
20140428-230158.jpg

How was your day?

How was your workout today?

Have you experienced DOMS after a hard workout? Was it as bad as you thought it would be??

Oh how I HATE thee….

….let me count the ways!
I want to take a saw and cut my shins off!! Can you believe this nonsense!! Let’s run through it…

1. I have new shoes
2. I have new inserts
3. I have KT Tape
AND
4. I have calf sleeves (highly recommended at my local running store)
I still couldn’t get through my run today! I got through 1 mile and had to stop because of pain. I never knew how deeply I could be pissed until today! I rested a whole month….a MONTH! This is what I get???

All I did was some box jumps at CrossFit some time in the last two weeks….and they have come back! I said before no explosive moves fore, but it’s official…I’m done! I’m not willing to risk other goals of mine for box jumps or DUs.

So…of I go back to the bench and rest until otherwise advised. (The great thing about being a PA…I can make my own decisions regarding my rest time and when I can go back.๐Ÿ˜‰)

This is what I’ll be staring at for a while, but I don’t plan on being here forever….

20140426-132348.jpgi just want to CRY because I’m so frustrated!!๐Ÿ˜ข

It’s hard to keep this in mind…

20140426-132809.jpgbecause my next race (ie next week) will be a walk! (And my vanity is SCREAMING right now!!)
I’m going to focus on the fact that I CAN walk and WILL run again, unlike some other misfortune people out there!

Has there been a goal that you can’t /won’t reach because of injury?

Wimpy, wimpy, WIM-py…..

Yesterday was a good workout but I felt kind of wimpy because I didn’t do DUs. Stinking shins…..

I used the KT Tape but remember it started coming off when I started sweating. SN: folks….it doesn’t take that long for THAT to happen!!!!.

20140425-192847.jpg
Shins felt so-so….

I came home pissed off at the idea of not being able to run for awhile…AGAIN!!!!

20140425-194748.jpg
But you know what got my mind off of it??? HUBBY!! No…not THAT way…..! THIS way…

20140425-193228.jpgMy hubby is the BEST chef I know! (No…seriously..he used to be a chef!) He can whip up anything I want, ANYTIME! This Cubanese* dish consisted of stir fried filet mignon with fresh English peas, onions, and snow peas, over a (small) bed of rice. Oh…and some of those Chinese crispy rice noodles to add a little crunch! Don’t forget a (small) glass of Cabernet Sauvignon to finish the dish. ๐Ÿท

TRIPLE OMG in my book!!!

SN: This is what we call “CUBANese, instead of JAPANese, because Miguel is Cuban- American and this is a Japanese inspired meal.
You like that??? That’s a Miguel ORIGINAL! He’s that guy…making up words that CRACK me up!! Another smart a** in the HOUSE!!

I’m INCREDIBLY lucky and BLESSED to have a hubby that cooks for me…ALL the time! (No…seriously….I don’t cook. Not unless you consider microwaving cooking!). I felt better after this meal. It was comfort food that comforted my achy shins. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
I will blog more on “Mig’s Meals” as they come. It will be great and you’re going to want to come over!!! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I sit here mentally preparing for the 5k tomorrow with Julian. Keep you posted on how “they” held up!

20140425-195131.jpg My new compression for shins. PLEASE God, let his work!!!!#prayers

What are your weekend plans?
Any workout plans?

They’re HEEEE-RE!!

….it’s official! THEY.are.BACK! Yep…you guessed it…SHIN SPLINTS! I didn’t think it was possible. I felt it was coming back, but I was hoping that I was wrong. I ran the other day and it that old feeling was there. All I could think of was “DAMN!!!”.

I decided to try a new (to me) tape. I normally use Rock Tape

20140424-214357.jpg for my shoulders and my shins. I did a desperate attempt Google search to find more about KT Tape

20140424-215235.jpg
**DISCLAIMER**
These opinions are mine from my experience with both products:
I liked the KT Tape technique for taping posterior shin splints, but I didn’t like the tape as much as Rock Tape. KT Tape didn’t seem to have time same endurance as Rock Tape. Meaning…it started falling off the MINUTE I started sweating. KT Tape provided great compression and it felt good while running. So, I’m thinking I could use Rock tape WITH KT Tape technique. What do you think?? Can’t hurt, I guess….

I’ve also heard that my local running store has shin splint sleeves, maybe for those that have chronic issues (ie ME)…so I might have to go get those and try them out. I’ll keep you posted…..

I’d do anything to make sure I didn’t have to rest for another month! At least with my 8 week shoulder rest from injury, I could still do other things. Kinda need your lower legs for many things!

What do you think? Am I on the right track?

Should I rest again ????

Exhausted…..!

I was way to tired to post yesterday or Thursday. I literally fell asleep while writing this post last night!! So if I fall asleep..this stuff must put y’all to sleep FAST! #thoughtprovokingINFO. It’s amazing how fast a day will go!

I am very sore from Wednesday’s WOD…

20140417-211030.jpg
Seriously Jack??? I just MET you and I don’t LIKE you!!! Jack WOD!! Get it…? Jack WAD…..you know…a play on words?? I’m hear all day….

I did the box jumps and after finishing 9 rounds, I decided to go for a run. GREAT BAD idea! Apparently explosive CF movements (box jumps, DUs) and running for ME bring on ——–> SHIN SPLINTS! Those little bastards are trying to make a comeback! I ran last weekend…no problem. Ran a little earlier in the week…no problem. Did some darn box jumps and wanted to get a little run on….BIG problem. I am going to nip this QUICKLY. I’m not going into a rest period for another month!! I’ll go crazy!! I’m WATCHING you, Shins!! #it’sON

Thursday’s WOD was Stations….

20140417-220529.jpg
I like the upper body strength training…miss it! I ran a mile and shins felt pretty good. I will rest today and try again tomorrow for a quickie run. Julian and I will do another 5k next weekend, so hopefully the shins won’t be a problem. Fingers crossed, peeps!

Any plans this weekend?
Why yes…yes I do! I’m taking my Dad to a local vodka distillery and we have a tour and a tasting! I’ll keep you posted!
And you thought that was only for wine! Hmpf…..

Have a great weekend!!!

Surprised Saturday

….and NOT in a good way!! I’m sad to report that my BELOVED Gators lost to UConn 63-53. #heartbroken๐Ÿ’”

20140405-211416.jpg
And in ALL kinds of weather…we Gators stick TOGETHER!!
They had a great season and a great tournament run, but the outcome wasn’t what any of us expected. This truly was MARCH MADNESS!!
Still LOVE my Gators!!
#bleedOrangeandBlue

Today…I literally had NO time to squeeze in any type of workout for myself. My youngest, Aidan, went to a tennis clinic. I have secretly hoped one of my kids wanted to play tennis!

20140405-212048.jpg
He came home wanting tennis lessons! (Oh no….WHAT have I created??)
I’ll keep you posted!

T-minus 7 days until Julian and I do our 5k. His first and my first since I haven’t run in almost a month because of my WICKED shin splints! They are feeling great and I can’t WAIT!

Hope your weekend is going well!

REST =๐Ÿ’”

Didn’t do ANY form of exercise today. That’s.just.WEIRD! I have to rest because I have Posterior Shin Splints. Same concept of HOW and WHY you normally get them; the only difference is the location. Anterior Shin Splints presents with pain in the front of the lower portion of the leg. This type is more common and what most people are more familiar with when we say “shin splints”. I, on the other hand, have the kind where pain presents on the inside of the lower leg, just above the ankle bone. Either scenario…NO BUENO!! You have to rest, which most people don’t like to do, including ME!! Tell me I CAN’T, and I want to do it MORE. But I have to rest because it is important. Why, you ask? (Pssst… And it ain’t for the obvious reason “because it will get BETTER!!”). It is important because my next 5k will be the first time family will run with me AND it will be Julian’s first 5k! He has been running 3 days a week at his school’s running club. We invested in some new kicks…

20140322-215249.jpg
Where ever you guys are..you’ll probably see Julian running in these beauties! We went to our local running store Fitniche to help find the right shoes for him. I love that they do a gait analysis and help you select which shoe is the right (no pun intended) fit ๐Ÿ˜ƒ .
I was able to find some inserts for my shoes so my shins won’t scream at me any more!!
So my intentions are to get my ass on my bike for some exercise! I’m a little worried because I haven’t BEEN on my bike in quite some time, but NO time like the present! I’m also nervous because Miguel and I will be skipping away for a little husband and wife time and I won’t be able to run. I ALWAYS run on va-cay, so my plan is to use the hotel gym. Pray it works out…..

Hopefully my bike ride tomorrow won’t be TOO horrible!! Pray on that too….
#restingisfortheBIRDS

๐ŸŽถMonday, Monday…Part Deux

Today was a a doozie! Seems like it wasn’t ever going to end! Fortunately, I always have a workout to look forward to. I NEVER sneak a peek at the WOD when they post it on FB. Some people look at it and decide not to go based on movements that they don’t like. I believe that is called cherry picking . I don’t look because I don’t want to psych myself out before I get there. I’ve always been that way..almost 4 years of doing CF, I never look before it’s time.
Today’s WOD..
br />
20140303-215428.jpg

I was glad to see that there was some running, as I wanted to break in THESE beauties….

20140303-211658.jpg
My feet and “fankles” look much better from this view! (Fankles = FAT ankles! Yuck!)
I’m usually a Brooks girl but it was suggested at the running store to Saucony. IN LOVE….! I decided to go back to the “traditional” running shoe. I had the Pure Connect which I did enjoy running in. My only complaint is they wear down fairly quickly ONLY because of my type of feet….I am flat footed and a pronator….

20140303-214935.jpg

I had a mile in the WOD and elected to get on the “DREADmill” and do another mile.

20140303-213036.jpg
No me gusta (no “likey” in Spanish) DREADmill. I always feel like a hamster on the spinning wheel. In motion…but ain’t going a damn place! But I pushed on through.

My shins are still recovering from DU hell last week AND running in horribly old shoes…
So I spent my evening….

20140303-213412.jpg
…with THIS stuff on! Trying my best to NOT get shin splints!!

How was your day?
What exercise(s) did you
