Looky, looky what I found…..

I was happy to get the run in today after work. My running buddy couldn’t join me today because she had some other work obligations. ๐Ÿ˜ข. It was nice weather and it was nice to come back to the car and see this…

She left me a little note! #awwww. We keep missing each other and now with Spring Break coming we will miss each other for another WEEK! (Only because I will be out of town!).  We will be back in sync in no time…..๐Ÿƒ. At least I did get my 2 and change miles in! #runWH

On my down time at home, I was scrolling through my FB newsfeed.  I follow many triathlons pages (support, races, info, coaching, etc….).  I saw an ad for a triathlon on Mother’s Day….

Holy CRAP!!!! That’s ME in the ad! I immediately text my Tri buddy (she says she looks like the Coneheads) and let her know!  BTW…pink is so NOT my color!!๐Ÿ˜.    She was just as shocked, as I was!  Oh….the race!!!  Girls on Fire is an all ladies triathlon on Mother’s Day, in Clermont, FL.  Now I’m gonna HAVE to consider attempting those hills AGAIN since I see my mug on the FB ad!!

How ’bout that?

Interested in some of those FB sites for Triathlons?

  • Tri-Fecta: Family, Life & Tri
  • Tri Swim Coach
  • Triathlon
  • USA Triathlon (of COURSE, duh! ๐Ÿ˜‰)
  • Swim, Bike, Mom

Just to name a few…  Hope you get a chance to check some of them out! If I think of. more, I will keep you posted!

My Closing Meme (for which I will now call “Dropping the Mike“…you know when a comedian closes the show with a joke that is SO ridiculous and funny, he/she DROPS the mike and walks off the stage…. Leaving the crowd LAUGHING…! That’s what I’m going for!๐Ÿ˜‰) There you have it….

#trueWORDS #triathleteKINDA #iDROPPEDthemike

How YOU doin’????

Well, HELLOOOOOOO Gorgeous! You should know, I usually reserve a greeting of this nature for THIS…..

ABSOLUT-ly my FAVORITE!!!

….but I also greet FRIDAY with same enthusiasm! Had my running stuff in the car, but Mother Nature decided to “Release the KRACKEN” in the form of rain! My GOD was it storming at work! My kids are in school about 15-20 minutes from work. I left work with torrential down pour and was greeted with the same at school pick up. Why does it matter, you ask? That’s the exact location (or town) that I run in before I pick them up. #howboutTHEMapples. Sadly, no run for me today, but that makes Saturday a good day to run. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Hubby and I decided to get a stationery bike and a new DREADmill for our home gym or GARAGE, as we formally call it.  It was delivered last week…

STILL in the box…..

Yeah…this TOO!!

Fingers crossed, it will be put together this weeeknd! As much as I HATE the DREADmill, it is an option to nothing. Like TODAY would have been a great day to use it!!

I don’t have basketball this weekend, so Operation “Put Races on the Schedule” will be in full swing this weekend! One of the races I am considering…

I’ve had this on my radar since I did my first on in 2010. I think this year is MY year. Of course, I have to check the basketball calendar before I commit!! Ahhh….the life of a basketball mom!!โค๏ธ๐Ÿ€. Hope I can make it work!!!

Questions:

What races do you have on the schedule?

Do you LOVE or HATE the DREADmill?

You Might be CRAZY if….

I’m sure there are SO many things that make me crazy, but truly my exercise addition (running, triathlon, CF,etc) makes me look crazy to most people that DON’T. I was quite sucessful participating in the Gasparilla 15k last weekend. As I was nursing my sore body, I was planning my next race and my next workout.  That got me thinking…”I am sore and tired as S**T and I planning what I can do next!”.

Angie, you might be CRAZY if….

  • you feel like you are going to DIE because you pushed yourself in a race and you are ready to sign up again! For that distance…or ANY distance, for that matter!
  • you think of “fun” and “creative” ways to get a workout/ run in BEFORE the day has started/ended! (4am?? 10pm??? NO problem!!)
  • you are SALAVATING over the new Garmin you ABSOLUTLEY, positively need…like NOW!
  • you miss a workout/run because of “something” and now your whole day is RUINIED!!
  • you plan your entire social life (and I use that term lightly because I HAVE no social life) around races you can do!
  • you get EXCITED when you see the email link for “Open Registration” for a race…even the ones you have NO plan on participating in!!
  • your running/triathlon magazines TRUMP your fashion/lifestyle magazines, in terms of what gets read first!
  • you are SERIOUSLY considering traveling to other than local locations for races now. (Yep….I sure am!!)

These are just a few things…I’m sure if I had more time, I’d come up with more!  But…all the crazy thoughts and actions are worth it, because I’m worth it!!

๏ปฟ๏ปฟ

What about you? Can you relate to this?  Anything I forgot or anything YOU do that might make you look CRAY-CRAY??

What’s UP, 2015?!?!?

HELLO 2015!
I figured it was time (now that I and the kids are back to work and school, respectively) to think about and write down my fitness goals for the year. I did a recap of my 2014 goals and I was pretty pleased with what I accomplished. So what do I do now? What goals can I make for this year? Would it be bad if they were very similar to last year??

1. Plan ahead
This goes without saying, but what exactly do I MEAN by this miraculous statement? I PLAN on nailing down races AHEAD of time instead of waiting for the last minute! From a cash flow stand point…it’s cheaper! From a sanity standpoint….it’s on the calendar and now I’m committed! PLUS- I hate wasting money! If I’ve spent it, I’m DOING IT!! ๐Ÿ˜‰

2. Triathlons
Again, I say that as a plural noun. I made it to 2 last year, so I am hoping to get to 3!! And is it too much to ask to get a better time WITH this goal?? I think NOT!!
SN: #2…please see #1.

3. Change up the Running Distance
I made it to a 10k last year, literally 2 1/2 weeks before the year ended, but I did it! And I liked it, and that means more coming for me. I hope to use that as a plural noun, as well.
Oh…and dare I say…dare I think…dare I put this out in the blog UNIVERSE…I think I may try a half marathon this year. I’m still thinking on that….
SN: #3…give a “shout out” to #1.

4. Eat better
I think I have GAINED and LOST the same 12-15 pounds that I have wanted to lose since I turned 40 (almost 3 years ago….๐Ÿ˜). It all boils down to my HORRIBLE diet. Well…it’s not THAT horrible, but it could definitely be BETTER!

/home/wpcom/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/383/62083904/files/2015/01/img_5167-0.jpg#truth

I am on Day 2 of eating better because I am THINKING better. It ain’t rocket science and really isn’t that hard. I’m going to be honest, because that’s the only way to I will change. I have, in some ways, thought I could always workout a bad diet. And getting older just shoots that theory RIGHT OUT OF THE WATER!!
I hope to CRUSH this goal!! Who’s with me??

4. CrossFit
I don’t think I will be competing any time soon but I want to get stronger. I aiming for a little bit more of a commitment (from myself) at my box.

I hope that I can mange to work towards these goals and succeed. Being a mom and professional can be a recipe for the mishaps…but I am UP for the challenge!

What are your 2015 goals?
How can we support each other on our goals?

PS…made it back to my CF box after the Christmas break! I was so happy to see my gym family.

/home/wpcom/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/383/62083904/files/2015/01/img_5169-0.jpgYou like the name of the WOD??? Yeah…I did that!

Swim, Bike…..DONE!

…Uh huh…my Triathlon is DONE!!!
What an experience. This was the first one I have done in 3 years. Injuries sidelined me and then just life got in the way with training. I was all too excited to get back at it!!

This race is the 2nd in a series of 4 sprint triathlons (Central Florida Triathlon Series) located in Clermont, FL, nestled between Orlando and Tampa. I’d never been to Clermont, so I was looking forward to being there! I was more nervous about doing a triathlon in July…in FLORIDA! My other races have been in October, when it tends to be cooler (believe it or not!).

Each race in the Central Florida Triathlon Series has a theme..

20140712-181304-65584959.jpg…..this one was “America” #merica
I didn’t dress in my Red,White, and Blue…simply because I don’t own any tri stuff in those colors. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Clermont is about an 1 hour and 25 minutes from me in the Tampa Bay Area…so suffice to say…I left my house at a** crack of dawn so I could fudge in “getting lost” time and get to check in with plenty of time.

20140712-181614-65774421.jpgThe Full Moon that followed me….

I checked in, got marked and went to the transition area to set up. Number 522, baby!!

20140712-181749-65869320.jpg

20140712-181747-65867572.jpgMy set up in the transition area had all my items needed for the race:
Bike helmet
Bike Shoes (and socks)
Running shoes (and socks)
Running shirt
Hat
Towel
Bag (with remaining items)
Fluids (Gatorade)
Energy chews

The cap and goggles stayed with me because I needed them for the first leg.

I waited for my girlfriend, Sam, to meet me

20140712-181850-65930990.jpgWe workout at the same gym and she was the ONLY one of my friends that I could bribe convince to do this race with me!

This distance was a Sprint:
Swim: 1/4 mi (440yds)
Bike: 10 mi
Run: 3.1 mi

The wave times were posted

20140712-182307-66187421.jpg..and since I’m OLD (42!)..I had a pink swim cap and therefore an 8:00 am wave time. Sam was 3 minutes ahead of me in the green caps.

Swim๐ŸŠ
1/4 mile in beautiful Lake Minneola

20140712-182521-66321889.jpg

20140712-182522-66322814.jpg
From the sand, those buoys looked FAR AWAY! The swim happens to be my strongest leg, so I wasn’t really worried about it.

20140712-182643-66403146.jpgThis was a lake swim which was a first for me. My other races have been in open water. Many asked me if I was scared because of our Florida gators (NOT my BELOVED University of Florida GATORS!) that swim in the lakes. I was more worried about amoebas and parasites and stuff like THAT from swimming in a lake! ๐Ÿ˜
Time: 8:50

Bike๐Ÿšด
Whoa…not my strongest leg…EVER! I wasn’t looking forward to this part. I’m not good not confident on my bike. But how do you get better?? Get on IT!!!
I can now see WHY people gave me the “look” when I told them I was doing a race in Clermont. One word…HILLS!!! I’m a Florida girl and we don’t have hills. Well guess what?? We DO have hills in Clermont! I didn’t have my phone on me (SMH), so I can only show you some after shots and some representation of the ACTUAL hills…

20140712-184121-67281306.jpg

20140712-184119-67279330.jpg
Mind you, there was the biggest hill I have EVER been on, towards the end of the bike route!! #really. It wasn’t my beat bike, but considering there were THREE hills, I’ll take it!! Seriously….
Time:53:10

Run๐Ÿƒ
Ok…I now have LEAD legs and I have to run a 5k. Oh yeah…and some hills too! #damn
I had to walk one part for the first time EVER! I didn’t feel good about it, but it is what it is! I felt good but my legs were tired!

Transitions
That’s the “in between” between each leg in the race. This is an art, in and of it self! This should be practiced in some way, but in not sure how…
How well you do in your transition will help you smoothly move from one leg to the next. Having everything set up and easily accessible is the key to a great transition. That….and having a good “rack” neighbor. ๐Ÿ˜‰

T1:3:41
T2:3:05

These times aren’t impressive at all…

Final time:1:45:13
Not great but not bad for a gal who didn’t do a LICK of training. All I did was CF and run. Not bragging, but I wouldn’t recommend doing “JUST” this for a race.

What did I learn?

1. Training is the key!!
You can’t expect your body to weather the demands if you don’t put the work in! I was about 10 minutes of my last triathlon time. Mind you…I was 3 years younger BUT I prepared and trained for it. I won’t let that happen in my next one!

2. Gear preparation
I made a list of the items I needed the night before. I was fairly confident I had everything. But I did forget to bring a little bin to put water in it to wash my feet off after the swim.
Ehhh…not too bad!

3. You have to start SOMEWHERE
I used this race as a baseline…some place to start to see where I need to improve. Which again…refers back to #1.

4.Loading during the race
You probably saw the Gatorade in my bike. Yeah…it didn’t get TOUCHED! I drank some before my swim and that was the last time something of food source touched my lips. I didn’t drink during the bike or the run. I had some energy chews

20140713-162204-58924383.jpgand didn’t touch them! It’s not like I forgot…they were out…I guess I just didn’t think about it. It was pure ADRENALINE that fueled me and kept me going, I guess. I surprisingly didn’t crash (mentally or physically), but I wouldn’t recommend it! I will make sure on my next one, to fuel up appropriately.

Who I do it again?
In a HEARTBEAT! I can’t make the race in this series in August, but I found one for September! Unless I can find one another day in August๐Ÿ˜‰

I’d love to hear about your experience with triathlons…first or one hundredth. Any tidbits? Any training tips?
